Thomas Jacob Sanford, 40, from suburban Michigan, killed at least four people in the attack on the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc Township on Sunday.

Police are still combing through the wreckage after he set the building ablaze.

Agreed. The problem is requiring a person to have a mental health screening in order to exercise a right, especially an enumerated right.

Better, IMO, to introduce mental health screening as a normal part of modern life. If something weird pops up, get them treatment. People identified as not passing such a screening or failing it, wouldn't' be allowed to vote, drive, possess a firearm and they must disclose it to their employers.
