Diversity is a horrible idea. These Indians come here and go on welfare and destroy our way of life. Democrats say great.

oct 7 2025 LOS ANGELES (AP) — California has become the third U.S. state to designate Diwali — the Hindu “Festival of Lights” — as an official statewide holiday.

Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a bill into law Tuesday to go into effect on Jan. 1. It would authorize public schools and community colleges to close on Diwali. State employees could elect to take the day off and public school students will get an excused absence to celebrate the holiday. The new law recognizes that Diwali is also celebrated by Sikhs, Jains and Buddhists.

Pennsylvania was the first U.S. state to make Diwali a statewide holiday in 2024, followed by Connecticut earlier this year.

Assemblymember Ash Kalra, a Democrat from San Jose who coauthored the bill with Darshana Patel, an assemblymember from San Diego, said he grew up celebrating the festival with family members, but it was an experience that was isolated from the rest of his life.

Indians have the highest median household income of any ethnic group in America, including whites.

Where can I get that welfare money?

Well I guess we can now add Hindus to this guy’s ^ expressed hatred of Blacks, Jews, people who speak Spanish, Democrats, Arabs, and anyone who doesn’t look like Ozzie and Harriet

I am looking forward to the exchange of cultural values and experiences. I hope my home state of New Mexico supports this holiday in some ways.

We cannot afford to have all of the foreign holidays as official holidays, so perhaps we should have a floating holiday which rotates to a different cultures special holiday observed in the USA each year! The moving date would be especially interesting.

I can't wait to try the festival foods!

I love learning about other cultures, values, religions and mythos. This is COOL! :)

Thanks for admitting you are a white-hating racist and a traitor to america.

You are being silly and racist. I like cultural exchange and enjoy learning about other cultures. I am confident in my culture, so I am not threatened by other cultures.

I am an American, and a New Mexican, with a heritage of English, Irish, Norwegian and German.

I have always liked allot of things about Indian Culture, and think that the Indian women are almost as attractive as American Hispanics. I love their music and food, though their dishes tend to be lacking meat.

Let go of the fear and embrace the world, it is a wide and wonderful place.

You are just confusing him with reality.

The way it works is that if a school has a significant number of Hindus, it is allowed to take the holiday. If a school does not, then the few students who are Hindus can take the holiday.

Christmas would be a "foreign holiday", and in theory if a school had few Christians, it would not be treated as a holiday.

Like blacks, the indians lead lives of crime and welfare.
Have you been to an American university in the last 40 years? Hindus are extremely overrepresented in post graduate education, especially STEM post graduate education.

We don't need more holidays. In fact we should ditch some of the ones we have such as MLK day. Why do we honor a semi-literate racist plagiarist who never had a real job in his life?

Let me know when California makes every day of the year a holiday so nobody in that state has to work ever again but will instead receive either a paycheck of "reparations" for life...

We can't make everyday a holiday. The roads have to be repaired, and the sewage must be treated. No single religion or culture should be set ahead of all others. The Constitution prevents our government from making any religion officially recognized above others. Our society cannot have a state approved religion.

But our society can encourage international and inter cultural exchange and exploration.

The California new holiday of the Indian Festival of Lights has a problem, because it puts the Indian Religion and Culture above and ahead others. Hence the need for a rotating or lottery selected Cultural Exchange Holiday for each year.

The base concept of celebrating and exploring cultural exchange is a good one. We just need to keep the number and amount spent on holidays at reasonable levels, and not put any one religion above others.

An Annual, randomly selected, Cultural Exchange Holiday or maybe two or four of them, would accomplish those goals.

Such Cultural Exchange Holidays should never displace American inherent holidays, such as the Fourth of July or Thanksgiving.

We could put the Mexican Independence day, Cinco de Mayo, into the lottery. The Fourth of July is the AMERICAN Independence, and in America, it should always be celebrated every year. We are Americans!

Cultural Exploration and Exchange should not replace American Culture, just augment it.
