Increased standard deduction: The bill permanently retains the larger standard deduction from the TCJA and further increases the amounts for 2025 and 2026. For 2026, the standard deduction is set at $32,200 for married couples filing jointly and $16,100 for single filers.
Higher child tax credit: The OBBB increases the maximum child tax credit to $2,200 per child in 2025, which will be indexed for inflation in 2026 and beyond. This credit is also now permanent.
Enhanced child and dependent care credit: The credit rate for qualifying childcare expenses is permanently increased from 35% to 50%.
