Can someone point me to McCrystals quote that got him canned?

Yurt, it's like I said... Everyone is running around saying McCrystal was insubordinate... critical of the administrations policy in Afghanistan... likening him to MacArthur and McClellan... his reputation and career have been ruined by this... and there is absolutely NOTHING in that article from McCrystal to warrant this castigation and destruction of a great general's career! NOT A DAMN THING!

Rolling Stone did a hatchet job (surprise, surprise) on a General, Obama didn't like the way it looked, and so he canned the guy who was running his war! Rolling Stone is now dictating military policy for the United States Armed Forces!

i agree with the above dixie....that doesn't mean i don't think it warrants resignation and an apology which he gave voluntarily. of course the wackos will make their comparisons, nothing can be done about that and obama did give him some high remarks in his speech today...

of course it was....how the general didn't see that (or did he and went along on purpose as some have suggested) is beyond me

Resignation and apology for WHAT? Because Rolling Stone wrote an unflattering article? Look... if we are going to can generals every time some left-wing rag writes something unflattering about them, we're going to run out of fucking generals really quick, aren't we?

I'm just astonished at how EVERYONE is throwing McCrystal under the bus for Obama! Even Fox News is reporting this as if McCrystal said something directly in contradiction to the administration! The false comparisons to MacArthur are almost laughable, if this weren't such a serious matter! Mac was VOCAL in his opinion about Truman's policy, he went on record numerous times saying it was foolish and stupid! And the McClellan comparisons are even MORE absurd, he directly disobeyed Lincoln's command to attack! Both of these generals DID SOMETHING to warrant being relieved of duty, McCrystal DID NOT!

You can't find a quote from him that is critical of the policy in Afghanistan, or questioning his commanders in any way, in the RS story. What you have is a narcissistic president who thinks more highly of himself than what is best for our nation and the war effort in Afghanistan... plain and simple, that's what you've got here!

Gen. Stanley McChrystal: "I've compromised the mission"

why are you calling him a liar?

Uhm... Yurt? Do you understand how the chain of command works? If Obama tells a General to write "I am a big fat dummy without any sense whatsoever!" ...that's what the General will write, because that is how these things work. You can't really go by the General's prepared statement, it's whatever the administration informed him he would write, to save his pension.

But Yurt.... IF you wish to believe whatever propaganda the Obama Administration wants to spoon feed you, it really doesn't surprise me one bit, they depend on brainwashed little quislings like you, who's butts get sore sitting on the fence!

so obama, before meeting with him...made him lie? so is he a liar now or before? which is it? i don't doubt coercive resignations....but mccrystal has been clear that he compromised the mission....unless you have proof obama ordered him to say this....you have nothing

obviously the man doesn't fear speaking out against obama's admin....so why you would call him a liar, when he is offering his resignation, is beyond me

Well, I will ask you again, how (what) compromised the mission? Can you be specific on that? Because I ain't seeing it... not from what is in Rolling Stone, anyway.

I just know how this high level shit works with Generals and CIC's... The General writes whatever the fuck the CIC tells him to write, and that's that! It's how it's been done for many years, and I doubt it suddenly changed under Obama.

right....so thats why obama gave him what he asked for in afghansistan

?????....he didn't give him what he asked for in Afghanistan.....he gave him less and he gave it much later than asked for.....he also insisted on rules of engagement which, while reducing the risk of civilian casualties, greatly increased the risk to NATO combatants......something no general would take lightly......

I've read the entire Rolling Stones article from beginning to end, THREE TIMES, and I don't see a single solitary quote directly from Gen. McCrystal regarding the strategy in Afghanistan, Obama, the Administration, the policies, or anything else pertaining to the war. If you can point that out to me, I will be satisfied, but I am not seeing it in that article. I see where they reference a comment he made last year, which he was already reprimanded for, I see comments made by his aides, things he supposedly told them, and I see some off-the-cuff comments about this French dinner he was going to attend, but I must be missing the derogatory stuff about the Administration, strategy, and war. If you would be so kind as to point those out to me, I will stop thinking that Obama just fired a great General for NO reason whatsoever, and that everyone and his brother is just assuming what they have been told on this.

Ask the Tillman family, or the detainees he had abused if they think he's a great general. The man is not as pure as the driven snow. Did you ever think he did what he did for a reason? Such as this theory:

"Seaton suggests that McChrystal -- furious at Obama's time-lines and under-commitment of troops and resources to what the general believes should be a massive counterinsurgency, embedded in a total war -- wanted to be fired, so that blame for the inevitable defeat of the present effort would be placed on Obama and his civilian team's refusal to commit fully to win the war."

Nobody ends their career in such an ignominious fashion without a motive.
