But, but, but... Illegals commit fewer crimes than legal citizens...
They do, in a per capita comparison.
Illegal immigrants, by definition, are committing a civil violation every day they remain in the U.S. without authorization. This would inflate their "crime" rate because it counts a continuous state of being rather than discrete criminal acts.
Including immigration status as a crime would not align with how crime is typically measured in social science research.

That's for starters. Then tack on that they can't legally obtain a job, are possibly working under the table and not paying taxes, etc., possibly used someone else's identity to get that job (identity theft), are likely in possession of items not permitted to foreign nationals, and on and on...
