If God were real, you wouldn’t need a book

You're confused by man made organized religion, which has little in common with a personal relationship with YHWH through the Holy Spirit
YHWH was an ancient Canaanite storm god. He stole his dad’s wife for his own. Gradually, he morphed into the top god in the pantheon of gods. Then, as the monotheistic notion took hold, he became the Dude. Genesis has segments that reveal the polytheism of the time.

I’ve told you this before. Why do you insist on clinging to your willful ignorance? It’s easy enough to look up.

Who do you thing wrote the Bible?

The Bible shows so much the hand of man. It displays a God who has every human feature imaginable ("regret", "anger", "fierce defender of one group", etc.) and it discusses wars and military attrocities as if they are pleasing to this God, or even made possible because of this God. Then it careens over to the same God who suddenly loves all the world and who even arranged to have his only begotten son brutalized and tortured to death by humans so that humans could attain God's grace.

Just at this level of abstraction it feels like a human-made enterprise. Then factor in the various technical errors and outright fabrications that litter some of the pages it's hard not to see the stains that mar the better message.

There's a lot to be said for the good in the New Testament, but it comes covered in the blood of the old and still holds onto a bit more for the sacrifice of Jesus.

Ultimately God needed not only animal sacrifice for ultimate atonement but human sacrifice.

Sadly, it kind of overshadows the GOOD stuff in the Bible.

HEy, I don't wanna sh*t on Christianity for the fun of it. It has a lot of good stuff in it and I've spent more than my fair share of time wandering around medieval churches as a tourist marveling at the works people of faith created. I'm just saying, that as an outside observer might think, it does feel a lot like human-made. </caveat>

Because a burning bush makes more sense? LOL

You're right about Jesus.

In Galatians, which is universally considered a Pauline letter, Paul taught that there was an essential equality between men and women. That was a radical statement for the first century.

"There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus."

Paul's epistles were written before the gospels.

Luke and Mark were not apostles, but they knew and were taught by the apostles.

I think it was the later bishops and popes who made women second class.
Didn't Paul write this? https://biblehub.com/1_corinthians/11-3.htm
But I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.

Then there's this: https://www.openbible.info/topics/men_over_women
1 Timothy 2:12 ESV
I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet.

Galatians 3:28 ESV
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

1 Timothy 2:11-15
Let a woman learn quietly with all submissiveness. I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet. For Adam was formed first, then Eve; and Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and became a transgressor. Yet she will be saved through childbearing—if they continue in faith and love and holiness, with self-control.

1 Corinthians 11:1-34
Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ. Now I commend you because you remember me in everything and maintain the traditions even as I delivered them to you. But I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, the head of a wife is her husband, and the head of Christ is God. Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head, but every wife who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head, since it is the same as if her head were shaven. ...

Genesis 3:16
To the woman he said, “I will surely multiply your pain in childbearing; in pain you shall bring forth children. Your desire shall be contrary to your husband, but he shall rule over you.”

1 Corinthians 11:6
For if a wife will not cover her head, then she should cut her hair short. But since it is disgraceful for a wife to cut off her hair or shave her head, let her cover her head.

Ephesians 5:22-24
Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands.

1 Corinthians 14:34-35

The women should keep silent in the churches. For they are not permitted to speak, but should be in submission, as the Law also says. If there is anything they desire to learn, let them ask their husbands at home. For it is shameful for a woman to speak in church.

He works in mysterious ways, one assumes. :)
Oh, for sure. Sometimes he will cure someone's stage 4 cancer or find a mortgage lender that allows an elderly widow to stay in her house.

Other times, he will just sit back and watch while hundreds of thousands of people die in a tsunami.

He's mysterious, all right.

^^ Paul most likely did not write Timothy, he definitely didn't write Genesis, as for the rest of it, these statements are either contradicted by Paul's actual relationships with women, or they don't particularly strike me as out-of-control, raging sexism in a first century context. The Greeks and Romans were far more sexist.

In the universally accepted authentic Pauline letters, Paul writes about many women who work with him and have important positions in the church as deacons, teachers, ambassadors.

I really do think it was later second and third century bishops who enforced a system where women became permanently second class.

Nonetheless the New Testament strikes me as having a pattern of making women secondary. A pattern that is still in use today to degrade women. Regardless of who wrote Timothy, the Christian hierarchy chose those books to include in the New Testament. They knew what they were doing.

Let's not forget Pope Gregory making Mary a whore for about 1500 years 500 years after the Crucifixion and Paul.

Most people, including atheists and agnostics, will point to certain actions and outcomes as cruel and unjust, as if it were objectively true and not just a matter of opinion or cultural convention.

Are you really so stupid as to think this some sorta "gotcha" for Atheists? Like we can't find anything bad?

God damn the depth of your ignorance is astonishing.

I don't believe in God but I think punching an old lady in the face is bad. And you know why? UNLIKE YOU I don't have to have God tell me it's bad. IT's bad because it makes society less safe overall. If old ladies (among the least physically capable in our society) can be brutalized at will without any oprobrium then it makes it bad for EVERYONE.

Why are you too dense to understand this SIMPLE point?

I don't believe in God but I think punching an old lady in the face is bad!:cuss:
ftfy. That's your opinion.

The Vikings, the Nazis, the Mongols would pillage and maraud their way across Eurasia assaulting old people and taking their money and land. They saw a real benefit to themselves in assaulting total strangers and taking their resources.

What higher standard are you pointing at to say your opinion is objectively the right one? And that it's not just your opinion or cultural convention.

We have Trump. And we are a Christian nation.
