Honestly, I'm not sure, but I do think that the following speech from John Mearsheimer on the subject of the U.S.' conflict with Venezuela and Russia's response was quite good...

Russia has already got more than they can handle going on.
I suspect this will go one of 2 ways:
1- Trump will go in with a few air assaults like he did in Iran or perhaps a bit longer like Yemen, then declare victory.
Results: Some damage, but on the whole, liveable.
2- Trump will invade Venezuela like the U.S. invaded Iraq, Afghanistan, or even Vietnam, with predictably terrible results, especially since Russia's -already- allied with Venezuela. I'm hoping this doesn't happen, but I guess we'll find out.
I expect it will be like Panama A two to three day thing. The people of Venezuela want Maduro gone.
Trump knows that a war will usually keep a leader in office. Putin and Netanyahu figured that out. He may think he needs a war to keep in power. He badly needs the legal protections of the presidency.

Their respective countries are not the US.
He doesn't. Trump is aware that he will remain in office until he is no longer eligible to remain in office.
Trump hasn't made that assessment. Trump has no such needs.
I have my doubts that it'd be so easy, but I grant that this is what happened in Panama. I guess we'll have to wait and see to find out what happens.
This is not remotely 1989.
Once Maduro is captured or killed the resistance to our invasion will fade. We have 4000 Tomahawk missiles of the coast of Venezuela . Maduro may eat a Tomahawk like his drug boats have eaten Hellfire missiles
And our military is better armed.
Doubtful......I have been hearing that the inventory of Tomahawks is a serious problem.
