I wonder if they will riot over this? My Facebook page is going nuts with people posting about it.

Former subway officer convicted of involuntary manslaughter in killing of unarmed man in Oakland, California.

Verdict reached in Oakland subway shooting

(CNN) -- A verdict has been reached in the trial of a former police officer who is white and who is accused of killing an unarmed black man in Oakland, California, according to a superior court spokesman. The verdict will be read at 4 p.m. (7 p.m. ET).

Johannes Mehserle, who was a Bay Area Rapid Transit police officer at the time of the shooting, is accused of shooting 22-year-old Oscar Grant on a California train platform on January 1, 2009. Mehserle, who was on duty at the time, said at the trial that he intended to draw and fire his Taser rather than his gun, CNN affiliate KTVU reported.

The shooting was captured on a bystander's cell-phone video camera. The video was widely circulated, and it spurred several protests and riots in and around Oakland.

Mehserle could be found not guilty, guilty of murder, or guilty of a lesser offense like manslaughter. The trial was moved from Alameda County to Los Angeles due to pre-trial publicity.

Ha! One of my friends posted the riots won't begin until after 7pm because everyone wants to see where LeBron is going.

Several hundred people taking over the streets of downtown Oakland across from the mayor's office. Just interviewed a guy on the streets who said violence has to happen.

I can't imagine sitting idly by waiting for LeBron to announce this then packing it all up to go out and trash my own city.

My friend who wrote that played college basketball hence the humor. More people are joining the protest in downtown Oakland and once darkness hits who knows what may happen.

It really means how much liquor gets consumed before nightfall and how it will fuel the fire.

Because it will. :321:

'I thought I was drawing my taser rather than my gun'

A cop who doesn't know the difference between a taser and a gun??? That is a pathetic excuse. Good bye Oakland.... you gunna burn tonight...

Look at the facts of the case. He was a BART policeman. Not a city one.

I read somewhere that this guy is going to do less time for shooting and killing someone than Plaxico Burress will do for shooting himself in the leg. That's fucked up.

FACT number one... a blind quadriplegic squirrel can tell the difference between a taser and a gun

FACT two... the guy is a trained officer... it matters not who his employer is. If he had a gun... he HAD to be trained in gun safety/use.

Interesting, just had a friend post on Facebook 'I wonder if more young black men will stop trying to avoid jury duty'

So that could be a problem on top of prosecutors trying to kick all blacks off of jury's as sounded like may have happened here.

Not only that, but he shot him multiple times. I'm reasonably sure that the first time I pulled the trigger, if I hadn't realized it was entirely different than the one on my taser, I would realize it wasn't a taser...

Where did you get that he was shot multiple times?
