President Trump tightens the screw with a strict oil embargo, it could very soon collapse altogether, bringing down with it the hardline communist gerontocracy whose dictatorship, over the past seven decades, has steadily impoverished the Caribbean's biggest island nation.

Cuba is already feeling the pinch of loss of black-market oil from Venezuela, Iran, and Russia. They've announced that international flights can no longer refuel in Cuba for example. Food is problematic too as the country's agriculture sector is not all that productive and the government can't afford to import much having no cash.

Yes Trump is demonstrating the classic bully tactic.

Find the absolutely weakest person (nation) in the room, who is not engaging with you, and show you can bully and destroy and then get your supporters to clap like seals and act like it is some mighty flex.

It is NOT that other US leaders could not crush Cuba, as ALL OF THEM COULD, but none saw it worth the cost, both financial and on the people, and the instability it will almost certainly cause, as we then see Cuba slip into the next narco State type nation.

Has any other President even bothered ?

back during the Cold War and the Bay of Pigs battle there was a lot of focus on not allowing Cuba to be a beach head for Russia. There was a real threat back then.

Since that point Cuba though has been a literal nothing burger to the US, in terms of threat or consequence. There is a significant Cuban population in Miami and across America who want revenge on the country though, as they were driven out and had assets seized when Castro took over.

Mostly it is a NeoCon wet dream (see Marco Rubio) who want to see America return to global domination or the weaker nations.

You do know that the Soviet Union had near ZERO interest in Cuba until Kennedy insisted on going ahead with deploying Thor and Jupiter IRBM's into Europe and Turkey. It was that action that got the Soviet's attention and suddenly made Cuba a valuable piece of real estate to them.

I used to be a great advocate for Cuba hoping that in time it would change. It has many things go for it but now seems to be going back to its old ways.

Those missiles were considered obsolete by the Soviet Union and were removed later when the heat died down.

Yes i do.

Does not change anything i said that you replied to.

I see them as a sleepy Caribbean island that is a nothing burger even compared to other islands. They have built almost zero economic power, and no political power.
