They did that AFTER Kennedy started putting 108 Thor and Jupiter IRBM missiles in England, Italy, and Turkey. Before that happened, the Soviet Union could have cared less about Cuba. It was simply the Soviet Union responding to a clear threat.

Of course, the US responded in turn, not liking nuclear ballistic missiles on their doorstep any more than the Soviets did...

Of course, the Bay of Pigs had a lot to do with it. The real cause is likely Batista joining the Communist rulers.
Lots of people have visited Cuba, and they think Cuban people want to be capitalists. Obama was facilitating that.
 
I heard today that the CIA is very active in CUBA right now setting up regime change....from Wilkerson I think.
