Let's say you're taking your nephew to the store.... He wants Something to celebrate his acceptance to the national honor society.... Your neices are there in the house as well and they just made super honor roll... So you say to him.... you know , if I take you , i'm going to have to take your sisters or they're going to be mad.... Even if i'm not their favorite uncle..... But you know what? Everybody goes to the store.... And everybody wins.... And no one Is offended .... And the girls don't turn down the opportunity to go get stuff and celebrate their accomplishments.... Even though they don't really like you....
What you highlight above is a shitty uncle, who reflects the way you think.
Why does the uncle have to make a 'show' of saying to his nephew 'im going to have to take your sisters or they're going to be mad'?
Why not just be the type of person WHO WANTS to celebrate both and does not feel he has to do it otherwise there will be bad consequences (nieces feel bad)? Why not want to do so the 'nieces feel good' instead, his nephew feels good instead, and he also feels good.
In your shitty situation the nieces go along and at some point later the nephew accidentally or purposely tells them 'uncle said he had to bring you and get you something or you would be mad', and their entire experience is diminished.
If you were not such a shitty person you would see why this could and should be done in a non shitty way by simply being a better person.

The point being you expose what a shitty person you are. even in your hypotheticals you simply cannot just be a nice person and have to taint everything with your pettiness.
But yes it would be lovely to celebrate both and if Trump was not shitty like you, they likely would have. Of course you will continue be shitty and think the girls, in both examples should just participate.
I'm not tainting anything , i'm just being honest... It would've been just amazing to see both teams being able to be celebrated together.... They should have participated.... They weren't an independent team , they were representing the United States... And then their captains chose not to let them Follow through with the celebration..... This Should never have been about their personal feelings towards the President... Especially when it's certainly looks like a few of the girls are speaking for every one.... And continue to do so....

And you "honesty" exposes who you are.
You simply cannot foresee a situation where the uncle is simply good to both his nephew and his nieces as somehow you think it is better for him to let his nephew know that he is only including the nieces as they would be mad.
You create a situation where if the nephew ever divulges that later, by mistake or on purpose, to the niece, what was suddenly a nice gesture becomes a shit one.
Nothing is lost and in fact there is a gain if the uncle does not follow you shit way of thinking and instead does it my way. The nephew still feels just as good and so do the nieces and there is no downside risk later.
But in your mind, your default position, is to always see the shit path and go that way and that is because you are shit person.
Too fabulous teams won two gold medals... Very different scenarios and background stories and that's all that we should be talking about and celebrating... And that's what most of us are doing..... You believe what you want to.... We Are all free to make our own choices..... It's just wise to consider the consequences that may come along with those choices....
