I have no idea why some of the board lefties in here complain about the price at the pump

The Magatards were whining about inflation, and now theyr'e tell us that we shouldn't be worried about gas price, and home heating oil.
...and record inflation. They'll keep praising Trump for everything he does because they truly are TDS morons.

I think it would have been better in the beginning to fully commit to winning that war rather than just trying to prop up S. Vietnam while doing little or nothing about the Viet Cong or N. Vietnam. By the time Nixon took office, LBJ had utterly fucked away any hope of that happening due to the political issues at home.

That's a different point.

We did NOT do that. The protestors saved many American lives by helping end that war.

That, to me, is supporting the troops. Not supporting unjust wars of choice.

That is the point with the Vietnam war. LBJ LIED his ass off to get us into it, then made a half-hearted, half-assed effort to win, tying US forces' hands behind their back. For example, the US Army was not allowed to bring tanks or other heavier armor and artillery into the theater initially. Then operational areas were defined and the US forces boxed into mostly defensive operations.

That's all on LBJ and the Democrats of the day limiting what was going on after committing to that war. Eisenhower and Kennedy both limited US involvement to just shy of 1000 advisors and instructors who were not allowed to engage in combat. LBJ used the lie about the Gulf of Tonkin incident to get the US into that war.

Well, like I said - that's an entirely different point. We never should have gotten into that war in the 1st place.

But you're really just making my point about protestors.

I pointed out things likely would have been far different if we'd fully committed to winning and defeat of the Viet Cong and N. Vietnam from the start.

That said, I agree with you that we shouldn't have gotten into that war in the first place. Instead we should have tried to work with Ho Chi Mein and the Vietnamese communist front that had been fighting to get the French out of Indochina and had even asked for US support in the 40's and 50's, rather than kicked them to the curb.

It was part of the Cold War in the form of Proxy Wars. The only good thing about the Cold War is that it didn't turn into a Hot War with the PRC or the USSR.

Monday morning quarterbacks like Terry are only proving how far around the bend they've gone by justifying the Vietnam War.

War 101: Never start a war you can't win.
