“President Trump's Justice Department has concluded that a federal law requiring presidential records to be turned over to the government is unconstitutional. The finding is an indication Trump will be reluctant to give all of his official records to the National Archives at the end of his term, as presidents have done for nearly a half-century under the Presidential Records Act of 1978.”
“The law, passed in the post-Watergate era as a hedge against government corruption, states that every official record regarding a president's decisions or policies belongs to the U.S. government, not the president.”
“When a president leaves office, the Presidential Records Act requires the White House to send all official records to the National Archives and Records Administration”
I wonder why?
The last seven Presidents had no problem following the law, just as they did releasing their Income Tax Returns, they didn’t fear transparency, letting history weigh their record, but now Trump thinks he doesn’t have, he shouldn’t have to, and the question remains why?
Why would a guy who fires seventeen out of eighteen IGs his first month in office want record of his actions kept from public view? Why would a guy who stole, lied, and fought to keep top secret documents want no one to see what he did in office? Why would a guy who eliminates Government websites and limits others want to control any record of his actions? Why would a guy who restricts media access want to prevent any official record of his Administration?
Trump better start building new bathrooms if he intends to take all his records with him
