Not a fan Gerrymandering, but the Republicans really f’ed themselves.

Voters in Virginia approved a plan that will likely cost Republicans 4 seats in November. California did the same. Texas for the Republicans

Good. I like what we did here in Michigan. Voters approved the creation of an independent committee to draw up new districts NOT based on political party but on demographics. We have a healthy mix of (R) and (D) districts and representation in the state legislaturee too.

What is funny is that those who put the referendum on the ballot had to mislead. Look at the wording

“Should the Constitution of Virginia be amended to allow the General Assembly to temporarily adopt new congressional districts to restore fairness in the upcoming elections, while ensuring Virginia’s standard redistricting process resumes for all future redistricting after the 2030 census?”

This is what Jarod calls “fighting fire with fire”. They weren’t even honest about what they were doing. I would bet many who voted yes didn’t know what it would actually do.

This is from our so called “democracy saving” friends on the left. And they wonder why I call them marxists

The wording is absolutely true

Exactly backwards. As a Virginia voter I had a good look at the two campaigns. The Democrat ads were straightforward in describing the creation of new voting districts intended to increase the state's Democratic seats in Congress as a counter to Republican efforts in other states to increase Republican seats, and calling for a YES vote. Republicans on the other hand ran ads misconstruing the ballot question and featuring Obama making remarks that were falsely described as advocating a NO vote. You couldn't have had a less honest campaign ad.

So you are saying that the average person could read that and understand that it would take the current situation from 6-5 to 10-1? That is what you would take away from it? You know this wording is vague lacking specifics about what it would really mean.

And precisely what about the current Virginia districting was "unfair"? Please keep your argument specifically to what is going on in Virginia, not other states. What was unfair about Virginia's districts that necessitated this change?

I always knew you were a statist who put party over principle. I really appreciate you acknowledging it in such a public way. As long as your side wins right?

I don't think I mentioned the ad campaigns. I was talking about the wording of the ballot. Don't you read?

I think it is funny that you purveyors of defending democracy think that others doing something wrong means you shoudl do it too. Party over principle right?

Voters didn't see the ballot wording in all probability until they went to the polls. By then they had been inundated with TV ads that ran ad naseum every day for weeks. Voters well knew what they were voting for despite the GOP effort to mislead them. And it's not wrong to restore balance, which is what the referendum did.

So before the referendum it was 6-5 in Virginia and now it is 10-1 and you call that restoring balance? Why do you care about what other states do? You are willing to disenfranchise and underrepresent your voters because of other states?

You give the average person very little credit. It says precisely what the bill does, and it was all over every news station in Virginia. Silly argument. You do not put political positions in a bill. SIlly.

As I have said, I am against Gerrymandering, however, this was necessary to protect Democracy because The PP started doing this with Texas, as usual for the PP's plans, it backfired.

Sometimes a saving grace of Trumpers is their inability to think things through.
