Presidential Fundraiser in LA

LMAO!!! They have basically shut down all surface streets in West LA, Santa Monica Blvd., Beverly Hills, and the Mid-Wilshire area. My best friend's normal commute from downtown home is 40 minutes. He's been in his car for over two hours and still is not close to home.

Have gotten a couple of other calls from ex co-workers also stuck in traffic. Amazing how they can literally shut down a city the size of LA.

Edit: Just got on Facebook and more people are writing of not being able to move in traffic and one girl said they aren't letting them leave work.

I get the need for Presidential security but do they really need all this?

Yes

Ask Bobby and John Kennedy, even Ronald Reagan.

Maybe it's because I've had to deal with that crap multiple times in SF but to close an area of a City where close to a million people are affected is ridiculous. I mean why not clear out the whole City? Make all four million people leave except for the cops and the people attending the house event?

Tell them it is a stay at home day!

Okay, okay, maybe they went a little too far! I wonder why and if there was a threat? Sometimes there are things they don't tell us.

And just to be clear I'm not saying this because it's Obama I'm saying it because I think it's crazy they would go to those lengths for any President. And you make a good point about potential threats but it seems to me for a simple fundraiser if there really was extra threats they would just cancel it. Now maybe secret service feels canceling an event would enbolden those who wish the President harm I'm not sure what procedure is on that.

From LA Times, Letters To The Editor...

There must be an easier (and, for the taxpayer, much cheaper) way to get $1 million to Democratic candidates than flying someone with a huge entourage across the country and snarling traffic for thousands of commuters for hours.

A first-class postage stamp maybe?

The guy hit the nail on the head with his letter. Obama and company pissed off just about everyone around the downtown area with the road closures.

That happened to me in Charlotte. Lord Cheney came into town for a fund raiser and they shut down both interstates during rush hour for his motorcade. What was a 30 minute drive took 2.5 hours.
