I would say it's historically expected from the radical Left. Some radical Leftist, often younger and in college or college educated, has been indoctrinated in Leftist culture to the point they take action.

The 9/11 terrorists fit that MO.
The Boston marathon bombers fit that MO.
Charles Guiteau, President Garfield's assassin, fits that MO.
The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand that started WW 1, fits that MO.
The Wall Street bombing fits that MO.
The Congressional ballgame shooting fits that MO.
The Unabomber fits that MO.

The radical Left has a long history of individuals who, once radicalized, choose violence against a political target they see as "evil." They are usually upset about their personal life being all fucked up too.

On the radical Right, shooters aren't so specifically political. Their motives vary more.

9/11 attackers were Salafi‑jihadists, not Leftists. Boston bombers were Islamist extremists. Princip was a Serbian nationalist. Guiteau was mentally unstable and not politically Left. The Unabomber explicitly rejected Leftism in his own manifesto.

If you want to talk about actual patterns, FBI and DHS data show far‑right extremists have committed the majority of ideologically motivated domestic killings in the U.S. over the past decade.

The majority of those involved were from upper-middle class family backgrounds and had attended heavily Leftist universities in Europe for years. They were further indoctrinated by Leftist politics and political groups in the Middle East. Saddam Hussein, for example and his Baathist party were politically on the Left.

The Unabomber was against technology and favored Leftist environmental positions. Princip and the other five assassins involved were all college students with a serious Leftist bent as part of Young Bosnia. Guiteau was on the Left politically. He wasn't mentally unstable even as his lawyers at his trial tried to portray him as such.

Saying they all came from leftist universities isn’t evidence, it’s guilt‑by‑association.
