Combat troops leaving Iraq

you are pulling a quote from 2003.... that was when Bush HAD no plan and was FUBAR'ing the situation.

I am talking about the game plan once Petraeus took over and requested the surge that Bush then approved.

All credit to the surge, then.

But seriously - trying to "brag" about the surge from the then-admin's point of view would be like me taking a carton of milk, intentionally spilling it all over the floor and then trumpeting the fact that I was the one who purchased paper towels.

bush specifically said combat troops would be pulled out by August 2010?

How could bush give a timeline beyond January 20, 2009? Any incoming president could change it, no matter what he said previously.
His timeline was established by goals not dates....moron.
Need I post them again?

It wasn't 'bragging' about the surge in the sense that Bush was always a great leader. It was stating that it WAS Bush's (via Petraeus's) plan that was followed. Not something that Obama has done. So quit pretending this is somehow a 'Bush is and always was great' endorsement. It is not. It is a statement of FACT.

Look at that - one week, you though "Bush was a clown too," the next, you're back defending him to the hilt.

I have heard righties on this board blame Obama for things that local DEA agents said & did since he took office. Cheney, by most accounts, was the most powerful VP in decades - he spoke for the admin as much as anyone.
I don't necessarily defend people, I defend truth, regardless of the who it involves. I guess thats quite foreign to you.

Maybe by Democratic accounts....he was no more powerful than todays VP....thats just one of the many truths you can't live with.

The surge did not work, what worked is that we gave up forcing a democracy in Iraq.

WE quit the war and pulled out, thats what worked.

ROFLMAO.... so the violence didn't greatly diminish? The civil war that so many on the left proclaimed would destroy the country.... did that happen? Security didn't improve to the point that it was handed over to the Iraqi police/army?

you guys don't seriously believe there will be zero combat troops over there? come on....obama is pulling a fast on you

To me it seems like a fluid situation. As long as the Iraqi troops can hold their own there will be no need for our troops to engage in any battle. If security unfortunately starts to fail and it looks like things could head down a dangerous path if not squashed immediately I wouldn't rule out our troops having to see action again.

But hopefully that later senario never emerges.

Amazing...Jughead think Obama surrendered.....

Thats a fascinating take on the pullout of US troops, and in an eerie sort of way....with the suspicions of just what this loons agenda really is, it might have some validity....:beam:

YEs we surrendered a war we should not have started... Some things were accomplished including the removal and killing of Saddam Hussen, but that could have been done without the deaths of close to 5,000 us Heros and close to 100,000 innocent iraqui's.

How many times did the Obama tell us how Iraq was a "failed war" that there was "no way to victory" and then promise to pull troops immediately while he was running?

You tell me. How many times, Damo?

The way you're characterizing it, it was many. Maybe you can find a quote fairly early in the primary where he used a term even close to "immediately," but I don't remember it.

I remember him constantly saying it would take time.

You've got your Beck blinders on again.

From Obama's campaign website:

"Barack Obama will responsibly end the war in Iraq:
Immediately upon taking office, Obama will give his Secretary of Defense and military commanders a new mission in Iraq: successfully ending the war. The removal of our troops will be responsible and phased."

0...

He never promised to pull troops out immediately.
