“Hegseth says battle for Hormuz is ‘separate and distinct' from the Iran war”

“Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth insisted Tuesday that the American-led operation to reopen the Strait of Hormuz is “separate and distinct” from the wider war with Iran, the most concrete public admission yet that the conflict has evolved far beyond its original scope.”

“Neither Hegseth nor Joint Chiefs Chair Gen. Dan Caine described how the U.S. would help protect ships moving through the strait.”

“The outbreak of violence — and continued Iranian threats to target ships trying to navigate the strait — demonstrate that Tehran still has the power to threaten the waterway and global oil shipments”

“Since the U.S. and Iran agreed to a cease fire last month, Iran has fired on commercial vessels nine times and seized two container ships, while engaging with U.S. forces “more than 10 times,” Caine said. But he said that those battles did not constitute a resumption of hostilities and fell “below the threshold of restarting major combat operations.”

“Neither official described what it would take to cross that threshold. It’s the latest element of uncertainty around the expanding war”

So now Project Freedom has nothing to do with Epic Fury, kind of like the Battle of Manila, Midway, Coral Sea wasn’t part of Pacific Theater

Need any further clue that Trump is making it up as he goes along? It is dumbfounded how he decided to go to war with Iran and never even had a strategy in place to immediately address the possibility of Iran employing ths Straits as a weapon

This is how they are trying to go around the 60 day permission thing. Defending the Strait of Hormuz =/= Iran Bombing.
True, but that “trying” is absurd, in fact, show they didn’t measure how to address all possibilities when they went to war

Doesn’t matter, the GOP in Congress is never going to rebuke Trump regardless of what he demands

As if anyone can address all possibilities beforehand. You are so childlike sitting here Monday morning quarterbacking when you have zero idea what you are talking about. You just regurgitate whatever Rachel Maddow spews out.

We will never submit.

Of course, Iran cannot match US naval and air power symmetrically, but it has geography on its side. Hormuz is narrow, congested, and economically vital. In such a space, Iran does not need large-scale confrontation to impose costs. The mere possibility of selective targeting can make transit too risky to contemplate.

The element of risk only needs to make insurers, shippers, and energy traders understand that military attacks on Iran will carry costs for global markets. That uncertainty alone can raise oil and LNG prices, increase shipping costs, and transmit the conflict into inflation, food security, and financial markets, and thus defeat our attackers' governments.

In effect, Iran does not need to defeat the US Navy to change the economic calculus of the US-Zionist war of aggression.

Iran has shown that it possesses a sophisticated arsenal that includes one-way attack drones, fast attack craft armed with antiship cruise missiles, rocket launchers, and even antitank guided missiles that could potentially be launched in large numbers from underground coastal facilities.

We know that elections in the US and Israel bid fair to put paid to the warmongering parties, and we only need to endure a while longer.

We have done so for nearly half of a century; a few months more is within our abilities.

Wait a minute, Iran controlling the Straits thereby directly effecting the world’s economy was just overlooked as a normal possibility? It was one of Iran’s first offensive actions in retaliation and your telling us Trump having zero strategy to deal with it is now “Monday morning quarterbacking?”

No one can address ALL the possibilities but a capable staff will address ALL the most obvious ones of which this was at the top of the list.

Now you can reply "I said capable staff... and not Trump staff' and that would be fair.

But John Bolton amongst others top military brass have confirmed this was raised numerous times to Trump in first term whenever actions in the region were done.

I can’t take you guys seriously when you quote John Bolton who you used to call a traitor.

What we thought of him is irrelevant. Trump trusted him at the highest levels and he is a long term neocon war hawk.

If you want to convince yourself no one in America drooling about invading iran for decades knew about the Strait risk then that level of stupidity is on you.
