There are people who will argue that saying America is melting pot is an attempt to make people leave their culture behind and assimilate into a white supremacist dominated racist country. How do you respond to them?

Some people do believe that becoming a U.S. citizen means dumping your history and heritage for ours.

Thank you and to you and yours as well. We're lifing and have our hands full raising a nine year old. But she is amazing and I wouldn't change it for anything.

I think most buy into this idea of America being a melting pot. Looking back many different immigrant groups weren't initially welcomed upon arrival but that changed over time (for that group). And the more generations a family is here the more people tend to be "Americanized".

There are still people though who will push back against this idea of assimilating.

Thats not at all what we mean by melting pot, cut the fucking crap. Take my family for instance, my grandparents on both sides all immigrated from Mexico, legally. They all learned the language, and loved everything our country stands for. They became part of the melting pot. I know a number of illegals in my area who can't speak English even after living here for years, and couldn't care less about America beyond exploiting the better working conditions. That's NOT a melting pot.

I think you are misunderstanding what I'm saying. I'm sharing the position of some, that people shouldn't assimilate because America is essentially a racist and white supremacist dominated country.

I asked Desh her opinion of that viewpoint. I didn't say people shouldn't assimilate. I believe that's the beauty of America, someone can come here from anywhere on the globe and become an American.
