Only thing I would add to this thread is that there were definitely no "Christians" in the OT. There were Jews, led by the Mosaic law, there were proselytes, non-born Jews but still under the Mosaic law and there were Patriarchal Gentiles, led by partiarchs or heads of households guided by God. Then there were idol worshippers. It all looks barbaric when you read it, not unlike Islam. Then came Christ and ushered in a new era of the follower of God. An era that didn't depend on "the sword." Some in the centuries that followed misused the law of Christ and did try to "force" Christianity on others via the sword (remember the crusades), but they were most definitely misguided to say the least. That isn't what Christ intended. But working to bring recognition of moral behavior peacefully in the form of being active in government wasn't ever condemned by scripture.

I do understand the concern shown by those opposing the mosque and other aspects of reshaping our society, which I cannot deny is changing. I don't belittle them for standing in opposition of the elements of that change such as Islam, but sometimes I do think we throw reason out the window when it comes to our opposition. Sometimes we make claims that seem to be outrageous...though possible. I think there is no way Sharia law will ever be in the US. I also do not kid myself thinking that Muslims wouldn't like it to be that way. there has to be a more central stance on this debate than seems to exist right now. Balance, balance, balance....that's what we need. And that is why I hope the Republicans gain control of something in November. I don't like one sided government, and do think it is more dangerous even than a one sided debate. Hope you can make sense of my ramblings here. I just get tired of seeing thread after thread about Muslims and mosques and Sharia and .... well, you get it.

Nine years ago, I don't think anyone dreamed we'd be debating whether or not they should build a trophy mosque at ground zero! I think your thinking is typical among mainstream Americans, most people can't imagine us ever being at a place where we would allow Sharia, but as you can see, fear and intimidation can do some amazing things. You have an entire generation (at least) of people out there, who just don't get it. They don't understand what America is about, how it was founded, the principles which make us exceptional, none of it! They have been spoon-fed this liberal socialist propaganda, since the day they began to crawl, and they simply know of nothing else. They are totally oblivious and clueless to the dangers facing us, and largely take this all for granted, our freedoms and liberties will be here tomorrow, same as they were yesterday... someone will come change my diaper, same as yesterday... If trouble comes, someone will handle it and keep me safe.

There is a list a mile long, of things I never dreamed I would see happen in America. I never thought I would see people literally argue that a fetus is not human life, in order to support abortion. I never thought I would see anti-war protesters at the funerals of soldiers who died serving their country. And I certainly never thought I would see people defending the rights of radical Muslims to build a trophy of conquest at ground zero. So, these things you may think are impossible now, can become very possible in the future, and relatively fast. Let the intensity of Islamic violence increase, let our newscasts be bombarded nightly with stories of suicide bombers in malls across America, entire schools wiped out, people's lives being destroyed, and watch as the pinheads begin to embrace the idea that if we could only pass Sharia law, these mean people will stop the killings. It's how lemmings think and react, and it will happen here, just as it has happened elsewhere.

51 years, but it wouldn't matter if I had been here 151 years, science has known human life begins at conception since about the mid 1800s, I think. It's not even a debatable subject, yet we actually have 'geniuses' out there arguing that very thing.

I can totally agree with the bolded part above. It seems the stories in American history that instill pride and spark interest....ie. Colombus or any of the great explorers, Lewis and Clark, even the history of Washington, Jefferson, Henry or any of the great men I studied in US History class...it seems that these stories have to be eliminated in order to fit into the school year what the government seems necessary. I know that here the stories of the explorers and founders is taught in elementary school but how deeply can one go into it with 4th and 5th graders. Then the focus turns to WWI and onward when minds can really comprehend in High School. I am supplementing my sons curriculum this year so that he can learn what I consider to be the good stuff. Exceptionalism is almost never mentioned which I find disturbing. We are an exceptional nation.

The thing is, we've allowed the "politically correct" to strip any and all significance from American Exceptionalism, because that would entail discussions about "GOD" and we certainly CAN'T tolerate that in a school! How can you teach about "divine providence" without breaching the mythical wall of separation between church and state? How can you teach "all men are created equal" without recognition of the fact they are created by a Creator? We've allowed the progressives to 'cleanse' our education system of all this stuff, this "judeo-christian" stuff that supposedly "violates" our rights to be taught.

No, these things haven't been going on your entire lifetime, they are relatively recent things, that our grandparents would have never believed would ever happen in America, just as you don't believe Sharia law will ever be implemented here. Progressives will most certainly continue to be progressive, and if they aren't stopped, will eventually destroy America by rotting it from the inside out.

You say you don't think America would ever adopt Sharia, but think about that for a moment... We start having a daily suicide bombing report on the news, city after city is plagued with these indiscriminate bombs, killing innocent people left and right, and it keeps growing in intensity and scope. You're telling me you don't think the spineless gutless liberals in America, wouldn't be embracing the idea of appeasing them by implementing Sharia? There is not a doubt in mind they will, some of them already are, and the killings haven't really even started yet!

I'll respond to this paragraph since we don't seem to agree about how long certain things have been going on. The reason I don't think Americans will ever adopt Sharia barring a complete takeover by Islamists, which I don't think will happen, is that if things like you say start (the indiscriminate bombing, innocents killed, etc.), then "Americans" in unison would rise up and want to stomp out the fire causing it. Kind of like they did on 9/11. Hardly any (notice I said "hardly any," because there were a couple of nitwits in opposition) elected officials and very few Amercians had a problem with us going to Afghanistan to try to fight Al Queda after the events of that day. It was the going into Iraq that caused the major problems for the leadership.
 
Fundamentalist Christian women, Southern Baptist come to mind, and Temple Mormon women, will have the easiest time adapting to Sharia, they are already suppose to be subjugated to their husbands. The radical liberal feminist will be the last to go and likely be put to death. The morality police will get them!

The "Americans" rising up in unison, following 9/11, lasted all of about 4 days. It wasn't long before the pinheads were pontificating on why the terrorist did what they did, and it was America's fault, of course. This has persisted throughout the entire War on Terror, from about Day 4, following 9/11.

Iraq was part of the problem! As is Saudi Arabia, as is Pakistan, as is Turkey, as is Syria...Lebanon...Iran...Yemen! The whole damn REGION is infiltrated with these radical Islamics who have declared war on America, and their hate-filled Sharia ideologies from the 5th century! The states who aren't completely in cahoots with them, are funding them, supplying them with weapons, and aiding their cause in every way they can. That is the threat posed by Saddam in Iraq! He had no scruples, no moral conscience, no concern for humanity, and he despised America beyond anything else. He had the capacity, the equipment, the scientific means, the material means, to provide alQaeda and the rest of these radicals with all the chem/bio shit their little terrorist hearts could ever want! And apparently, you are just too blind or ignorant to understand why that WAS a problem for us. One that HAD to be dealt with, before it bit us in the ass! Some people, to this day, can not, or will not, grasp that point.

And really, I don't want to completely rehash the entire debate of the Iraq war here, I've been through all of it about a billion times, and it's the same old shit over and over again. We eliminated a threat to America, a mortal enemy of America, and a potential source of support for terrorists. We liberated 26 million people, and gave them a chance to live a life without tyrannical rulers. The average Iraqi is eternally grateful to us for that. I'm sorry, but I can't work up a lot of disgust and rage for what we did.

Every country that has Sharia law has a muslim majority. America will never have one. Mexicans which are catholic are the ones massively immigrating here whether legal or illegal they will protect America from Sharia law because they are Catholics not muslims. The people immigrating to Europe are muslims. Europeans are having no children while muslims have large families. Muslims are a large enough number in most european countries that they are responsiby for the rise in fertility rates this is bad for europe. Once the muslims are the majority in France will they establish Sharia law in France. How about Italy? The real question should be will Europe fall to Islam/Sharia Law?

So you think, because we've had a past history of meddling in other countries affairs, we should just ignore current potential threats to our national security? We should have gone after the terrorists who perpetrated 9/11, but not by actually going into another country, or using guns and stuff? Maybe we could have done like Clinton did numerous times, and just put a warship off their coast, and lobbed tomahawk cruise missiles indiscriminately at them? Sure, we would have killed a lot of innocent people, but they aren't Americans, right? Or maybe we should just all stick our heads in the sand, or up our ass, and forget the troubles around the globe... just pretend they don't exist! What's the worst that could happen?
