Mumbai: The US would be spending a whopping $200 million (Rs. 900 crore approx) per day on President Barack Obama's visit to the city.

"The huge amount of around $200 million would be spent on security, stay and other aspects of the Presidential visit," a top official of the Maharashtra Government privy to the arrangements for the high-profile visit said.

I may be in the minority on this one but I don't have a problem with more H1B visas going to the worlds brightest to come to the U.S. to work. Maybe it's because of my experiences while working in the Silicon Valley but those bright minds are what create the new products/ventures and keep our country moving forward.

I work in the IT field. There are plenty of us bright minded Americans that would love to do the jobs. H1Bs are only there to lower IT salaries.....mostly.

After passing HCR and reigning in credit card companies and dealing with the financial crisis you would begrudge the First Family a vacation? That's just not right. :nono:

It's easy to say "every Prez does this," and that this kind of stuff is just par for the course for American gov't, but there are about a million places like this where fat can be cut without affecting any actual programs - from trips like this, to the 7 layers of paperwork that any agency has to fill out for every small purchase.

Taken on their own, they're peanuts - really nothing in the scheme of things. But combined, they can make a real dent....

I'm just more used to our Presidents going the fuck home to where they originally lived, before their election, for vacation, than to take 3000 people, US NAVY ships, airplanes, tanks, trucks, etc. halfway around the world for their own amusement....but hey...thats just me.

Seems like only a few months ago, a president vacationing in Texas or California, or Kennebunkport, Maine would bring hours of wrath from pinheads and News networks for days and days.....ignoring the reality that a trip to ones home isn't really a vacation at all, except for Presidents of a certain party.

"On Thursday, Bush left for a weekend in Kennebunkport, Maine, and his family's summer compound, Walker's Point. On Monday, he heads to his Crawford retreat, where he has spent all or part of 418 days of his presidency, according to Mark Knoller, a CBS News White House correspondent and meticulous record-keeper.
"...The presidential vacation-time record holder is the late Ronald Reagan, who tallied 436 days in his two terms. At 418 days, and with 17 months to go in his presidency, Bush is going to beat that easily."

At least Obama is doing his job.

It's too bad you have to get all hack-ish with what is essentially a good point.

Obama caught just as much BS for a trip to NYC as either of the Bush's ever caught. And no one ever went after either Bush on the "expense" of their vacations; "hours of wrath for days & days" is crazy hyperbole.

Bullshit. He's done everything except his job.

Outside the USA is one of the places we can find brilliant minds these days, think what the USA would have been like if we had not had the German (European) invasion of brilliance! and later, the Asian invasion! I don't have trouble with them coming to American and becoming citizens, either!

I doubt people from China are moving here because "we represent freedom". We don't, because of conservatives, and that's why the Chinese like us.

If his job is professional campaigner, I guess he is.....

I heard that in January we're going to have a black President,..that will be something of a first in the US....

Watertard, why do you think Chinese move to America then? And why, if they do, end up working hard and being more successful then you?
