Private Central Planning<--What we have

i don't have to rebut your idea....you are the one who is proffering the idea....so it is up to you to convince others to follow your idea

what a strange view of leadership you have....apparently you believe if you shout out -- we should do X....then all the people should do X unless they rebut X....

not the way it works

again....i want specifics....you offer general buzzwords

Everyone knows what protectionism is. We grew to a world power when we kept our people employed instead of sending wages overseas and losing skills in the process.

Globalization is an attack on the developed world through trade deficits, based on currency manipulation and price gouging in the first world.

Britain was the world power during that period, and they completely abolished tariffs from the early 1800's to the early 1900's. Economies can still grow when protectionist policies are in place, but it's in spite of, not because of.

But they can also grow because of...

During that time they weren't as many overseas wage slave camps open for business either.

We would definitely grow our domestic production and jobs in the current context, if we implement protectionist policies.

Well, actually the basis of Britian's power in that period was wage slave camps in other parts of the world. Once the imperial model fell apart their power waned significantly.

So they obviously needed the protectionism, if they fell apart after that.

You're making my case.

Let's not. You tell me why you believe protectionism cannot work in any way to create jobs.
When did I say that? I simply want to know your plan. What would we protect first? What is most important? How much tariff should we set on it?

If all you have is a vague idea then it can be used as a tool to allow for still more outsourcing of specific jobs, it can be made into a tool of "global fascism".

So, again. Please tell us more, we'd like to hear what you'd start with, how much the tariff should be, and a basic plan to ensure equitable distribution of tariff protection.

lol...asshat can't talk specifics, likes buzzwords...

asshat FTW

Im just trying to understand the certainty people have about why protectionism can't work.

The dynamic is obvious. Making imports more expensive makes domestically created products more attractive in the marketplace, boosting domestic job creation.

Nobody has offered a general statement as to why that dynamic doesn't work.

Can you?

It would depend on how it is applied. Care to tell us your priorities? Where should this be applied first?

Oh really. what are the main factors which would make it successful? Share with us your protectionist ideas, damo.

I guess globalization ain't so inevitable after all.

For a start, if we impose a tariff on any foreign product that is also produced in this country. If a pair of shoes costs a buck here to make and 10 cents in china then there's a 90 cent tariff on their shoes when they enter the country. This would protect our workers and standard of living. It was the law for nearly 200 yrs in this country.
