I have been to Virginia and Maryland but have never been to the Deep South. Trouble is though, you are white and you might have a different experience if you were black, brown, green or blue in somewhere like Alabama or Georgia. Of course, it is easily solved by Webbway telling us which region he lives in, but I know that he won't as he just loves being an anonymous wanker.

Proof isn't to difficult to find. The South has its fair share of gangs that do plenty of killings. I'm sure she way probably trying to say if you are black some white people that might try to kill you because of your color and there are probably a few small pockets where that still exists. In reality a gang killing is more likely to get you and all that takes is looking at someone the wrong way.

But point me to an area where gangs aren't a problem. Maybe in a state that's 98% white but even then I bet there are still a few areas of trouble.

Sure there is still racial anomocity (sp) that exists but if you (you meaning everyone) thinks whites are just going to go shoot some blacks for fun and it's not going to make national news with serious outcrys then that's just not seeing reality.

As a white person walk through parts of Atlanta and see how well received you might be. You can get shot up just as easily.

true....but people like rana will always bash the south, while completely ignoring the rampant racism, crime etc....with urban gangs across the nation

The link I provided had a demographic in common with one another...wealth for safer areas and poverty for less safe areas. Frog was intending to make it sound as though if you are black you will get yourself killed in the south... The truth is it is more likely if you are white you'll get yourself killed in Compton then being black in the South.

Nope, that is not so, I bash the cities and their gangs, too! I lived in Kansas, which is and isn't the South, and I saw what people were like to those who did not share their same physical traits! I moved to Alaska and here it is the native population that they pick on, plus our gang problem is on the rise. It is still a safe place to walk the streets on most of the time.

If I'm "coming after you" it's because half my family is from the South. I've lived and spent time there and there are really some great people there. To write it off as just a place where you can shot for how you look (which can happen anywhere in the U.S.) makes me want to defend it.

If you don't like webway's posts don't read them or ignore them. That is what I do.

Sure racism exists still in the South. I prefaced my comments that the South still has issues. But having spent time on the West and East Coasts I can say racism is not exclusive to the South. And black people aren't getting shot by whites just walking down the street. Again that would rightfully make national news. As a white person walk around gang infested areas in Atlanta or Columbia, S.C. and see how safe it is. Danger is not one sided.

I get just as defensive over Oakland. Yes there are gangs in Oakland and yes there are lots of killings but the whole City is not everyone shooting everyone. There are some great areas of Oakland and great people there.
