Is it true he stayed in D.C. for a RNC fundraiser tonight instead of going to Arizona? Keep reading that he turned down a flight on Air Force One with the President.

Maybe nothing comes of this but that just seems like bad form as well as bad P.R. I know he spoke this morning but still she is a colleague and you are the leader of the House. Not a good decision in my opinion.

If that is the case then Boehner has a strike against him in my record book. He is 3rd in line to the presidency and a colleague of Mrs. Giffords. It was a time to show respect for her and the other victims as well as to show the country that we are in this together (imagine the image of him and President Obama flying there together) ...not for political fundraising.

I don't know the technical ins and outs of those rules but nontheless, I think he missed a chance to make a good point (and score points) with a lot of America. Of course this is based upon what I have heard here and only here...that he bailed on the Arizona memorial to attend a RNC fundraiser.

Or he already read his message into the Congressional Record and felt it was now the President's turn to take the stage. But it doesn't surprise me that you'd fall for this latest Democrat attack.
 
it appears he did turn down the air force 1 flight to the memorial, however, he did attend a prayer service in washington and

led a tribute to Giffords and the other victims on the floor of the House — where the speaker dissolved into tears during his speech.

he also attended an event later that night which appears to be a fundraising event.

while the move appears tone deaf and would have been a good PR move, going with obama (read working together) to the memorial service, i can't see how anyone can knock boehner for attending a prayer service in washington and leading a tribute to the giffords and the victims on the house floor. it is like saying that the only way to pay your proper respects is to go that one memorial. rubbish.

Sorry, I didn't read it as a "democrat[ic] attack" especially since it came from Cawacko...who is no democrat.

Now to my point...maybe a little plainer this time. If he missed the service because he felt he needed to attend an RNC fundraiser instead then yes.....I consider that a strike against him. If he felt he had done enough and/or wanted to turn the stage over to Obama....while it was certainly his perrogative it was a poor political move IMO. Either way, I feel he missed an opportunity, but the second scenario definitely would make me feel better about him.

Back in the '90's didn't Gingrich fly on Air Force One with Clinton and then complaimed about having to sit in the back or something like that?

Cwacko was apparently just ax'ing a question and anticipating the media's next attack. Due to your "white guilt" you're obviously looking for any way to prop up The Obama by degrading the leaders of the opposition party. Don't let me stop you with your transparent motive.

I recall the press making a stink out of that, but I don't know if he was speaker at the time or a presidential candidate.

He was Speaker at the time and this happened right as the Republicans shut down the government. Depending on which Republican you ask this event turned the public against the Republicans and helped get Clinton re-elected in '96.
