Orange Co. GOPer Says Obama-As-Chimp Pic Was Just A Joke Meant For Friends
Jillian Rayfield | April 18, 2011, 10:36AM

Orange County Republican party official Marilyn Davenport has sort-of apologized for sending out a racist picture of President Obama depicting him as a chimp being held by his chimp parents: "I'm sorry if my email offended anyone. I simply found it amusing regarding the character of Obama and all the questions surrounding his origin of birth."

She added: "Again, for those select few who might be truly offended by viewing a copy of an email I sent to a select list of friends and acquaintances, unlike the liberal left when they do the same, I offer my sincere apologies to you--the email was not meant for you."

Davenport's message came after the OC Weekly obtained a copy of an e-mail on Friday with a picture of the President photoshopped onto a baby chimp that's being held by two adult chimps. "Now you know why no birth certificate," the picture says.

Scott Baugh, chair of the OC Republican Party, decried the e-mail, telling R. Scott Moxley of the Weekly that he thought it was "despicable."

"It is dripping with racism and it does not promote the type of message Orange County Republicans want to deliver to the public," he said. "I think she should consider stepping down as an elected official."

So it was "racist" to apologize for a picture of Obama as a chimp? Well, that explains why Liberals never apologized for depicting Bush as a chimp, they are obviously NOT racists!

just not the typical TEA party activist. but the most annoying noise always gets the most attention, so feel free to keep that big ass paintbrush-a-painting

Guess you didn't see the thread where bravo painted all Dems and liberals with that same big ass brush.

Sauce for the goose, etc.

The apology that wasn't. Using the old "I have black friends" defense. Wonder if those friends would think it was funny.

"Reached by telephone and asked if she thought the email was appropriate, Davenport said, "Oh, come on! Everybody who knows me knows that I am not a racist. It was a joke. I have friends who are black. Besides, I only sent it to a few people--mostly people I didn't think would be upset by it."

Let me ask you, what is the purpose of this story? Is it to point out a truly racial prejudice, or is it to attempt to marginalize the TEA Party by insinuating racism? Because, the way I see it, it's the later. This is the old Liberal trick of pointing to something that isn't racist, and claiming it is, because you want to discourage people from supporting the TEA Party. In other words, your message is, support big government socialist liberalism, or we are going to brand you a racist! I hope that kind of strong arm tactic works for you, I think America will reject it, as they have before. We're not afraid of what you call us! You want to pretend we are racist people? Go for it! We'll bury your ass at the polls. Go ahead and take your best shots now, because you won't get any later. Your days are numbered and you know it, that's why we see this kind of desperation and false outrage. Your ship is sinking, and you don't know what to do... so you're going to throw out the old race card one more time! Good for you, it's a fitting end to your dishonest and lying legacy.

As odd as it feels, I have to agree with Dixie.

For people to claim that the chimp pics of Bush were humor and the ones of Obama are racist is simply a political manipulation that makes cases of real racism harder to get fixed.

I think it goes deeper than that... I think the accusations this is racist, is actually racial prejudice itself. What are they saying, really? That chimps and monkeys look too much like black people to use such imagery? That when you see a monkey or chimp, it reminds you of a black person? That when you see a black person, they make you think of a chimp? That when both a chimp and a black man are compared in a photo, it's assumes black people are like chimps or chimps are like black people? Chimpanzees and monkeys are a different species than humans, we don't see the racist bellowing if Obama is depicted as a donkey...(maybe there is, just not noted).. why is a chimp or monkey a problem? What if he were compared to a white chimp or monkey, would it still be racist, or would that make a difference?
