What Everyone is Too Polite to Say About Steve Jobs

Microsoft isn't nearly as dedicated to it as Apple is/was.

That's only because they are losing their monopoly, but they still try their best. A case in point, MS bought Skype recently and I very much doubt if they will put any resources into updating the Linux version which is very old and still in beta.

I happened to pass an Apple store earlier and it was like John Lennon had just been shot on the sidewalk or Princess Di had died again.

There were hundreds of Post-Its all over the storefront (I assume they were covered with messages about Jobs), and candles, flowers, and even people crowding around the door crying and shit.

I guess Mac/Apple folks really are "religious".

He tapped into elitism... You are "better" if you use his stuff and giving it "to the Man"... Microsoft is evil... Even though they are far less closed source.

You have only just realised that, I have a friend who is incredibly smart and has been in the IT industry for many years but he is incapable of discussing Apple products rationally.

Microsoft took over from where IBM left off, I still find it amazing that a bunch of kids managed to shaft IBM with MS DOS and negotiate a licence fee for every copy.

I understand that Steve Jobs was an arrogant asshole. Since it was doubtful he would have dropped by my house for a cookout, I have no real problem with that.

But the fact that he and Woz invented the Apple home computer means he revolutionized our world. I admire someone who does something that changes our world for the better in such a huge manner.

I realized it long ago; just never seen geeks weeping in the street before. It was like the disciples after the Crucifixion.

The trouble is that Apple didn't invent any of the technology that went into the Lisa and Apple Mac, the true innovators were Xerox at PARC. The iPod is another case in point, a Brit called Kane Kramer invented an iPod like device way back in 1979.

Jobs was a master at marketing and making people need things they didn't really need. I was selling custom built touch screen tablets when I was in Iraq (along with other items) back in 2007.

Does Tommy's endless tub-thumping for Britain remind anyone of Soviets claiming they invented the telephone, the automobile etc.?

And there were home computers for sale before the Apple hit the market. I had a Radio Shack model that was cute.

But what Woz & Jobs did was make it user friendly and capable of doing more with ease.

Just trying to inform ignorant proles such as you about the history of computers. By the way, last time I checked Palo Alto is in California.
