My take on it is Obama's not playing the typical political game. He's had enough of the bickering and dragging on of negotiations, the usual political posturing we see. Congress members exiting the building to waiting cameras and microphones to grab the spot light.

Remember Bush? One couldn't turn on their TV without seeing his face and hearing a speech. Obama is not that type of person. He doesn't require the admiration of the masses. He doesn't need a live video feed from the Oval Office so people can watch him work. He'll take his case to the people in time for election day. Let the members bitch and whine and scrap among themselves and shoot off their mouths telling us how hard they're working to come to an agreement when one word, "Yes", would settle it.

I see Obama as being above the fray. He's there to get things done like he did with ObamaCare. He knows it's pointless with a majority of Repubs in the House even if the SuperCommittee is evenly staffed. He's not selling out. It's better to let two year pass than to buckle under and have laws that result in further poverty.

Let the people decide next November. A clear choice. An up-or-down vote, so to say. All the marbles.

I agree, we'll just point out how they wouldn't compromise and therefore their favorite social program will be "cut"...

Today we have a President that runs around the nation promoting his "plan" of "spend still more and it will fix it this time" constantly on TV pressing for what he wants, except when he thinks he can "use" it during an election year. Seriously, he just went on a trip where he was making a speech every frickin' day promoting his plans and telling people to push their Congress to act like he wants them to act. Obama absolutely requires the admiration of the masses. He most certainly does NOT want them focusing on what he actually DOES (more like DOESN'T DO).... He is non-stop campaigning. I would venture that he has had far more appearances/speeches/TV time than Bush at the same point in Bush's Presidency. Hell, I bet Obama is close to the total number of speeches in Bush's entire 8 years.

Saying obama reached a deal to create a super committee is NOT reaching a deal on the deficit problems. It is simply his standard vote of 'present' and 'I will push this problem as far into the future as I can so no one can hold me accountable for anything'

I'll ask again, what specifically should he have done and how would it have gotten Republicans to agree to tax increases? Keep in mind that the Republicans haven't supported a single thing the President has proposed on this issue. What magically would have made that change? Also, wouldn't the president's involvement make it less likely that Republicans would agree to anything?

By the way, (1) doing nothing eliminates $7.1T in deficit spending over the next 10 years (2) I like that you try to get more mileage out of the "vote present" thing but Obama doesn't get a vote so it isn't really applicable in this context and (3) Obama put forth a detailed deficit reduction plan that you can dig up for yourself if you like.

Problem is, Harry Reid has decided to short-circuit the Constitutional process of making decisions, and he REFUSES to permit the Senate to engage in the time-honored and time-tested give-and-take in the budget process.

Now, if Obama actually had leadership skills, he would demand Harry Reid pick up all that legislation sent to the Senate by the People's House and find common ground. But he squats to pee.


Instead, these losers are trying to rule by emergency and executive fiat.

This actually is untrue, IMO. I believe the super committee was Obama’s attempt to enact SS cuts, something he dearly wants to do.

Thank God Republicans are unable to take yes for an answer, and the whole nefarious plot fell through. For now. But our owners want our SS money, and I believe Carlin was right - they're going to get it. Eventually, they're going to get it.
