Texas Teenager Mistakenly Deported to Columbia

This is insane:

A Dallas woman has been searching for her granddaughter who ran away from home at age 14 in 2010 and ended up mistakenly deported to Colombia after giving Houston authorities a fake name. She remains in Colombia today.

It’s a nightmare for Lorene Turner, who looked daily for her granddaughter, Jakadrien, until Dallas Police helped her discover that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Houston deported her, despite taking her fingerprints and despite the fact she spoke no Spanish she told WFAA-TV in Dallas:

“They didn’t do their work,” Turner said. “How do you deport a teenager and send her to Colombia without a passport, without anything?”

News 8 learned that Jakadrien somehow ended up in Houston, where she was arrested by Houston police for theft. She gave Houston police a fake name. When police in Houston ran that name, it belonged to a 22-year-old illegal immigrant from Columbia, who had warrants for her arrest.

When she got to Colombia, the government gave her a work card and released her. But since U.S. authorities in Colombia found her about a month ago and asked the Colombians to help, the government there instead detained her and won’t release her, Turner tells WFAA.

She's 14 and she was deported to Columbia. What the fuck is wrong with people?

hmmm, I had posted this in one of my threads, but I think you're right. It deserves it's own. :good4u:

Just another reason why there is a judicial branch that should NOT be circumvented by the others.

I know this is going to get the right-wingers' panties in a twist, but it should be noted that this would never happen to a white teenager.

Of course not. (and this is gonna make the left-wingers panties angry or whatever :)) A white teenager doesn't look like he/she could be an illegal immigrant from Colombia. Kid shouldn't have given a false name that happened to turn out to be the same name as an illegal immigrant who had arrest warrents and the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Houston didn't do thier job to check out the story of this person. Both are responsible in this matter. ;)

what will suck is ICE will suffer no penalties for this, because if the teen or mother sue, ICE will charge her for lying to a federal agent.

So it's the kid's fault she got deported to Columbia? Awesome.

So, she gave them false information... fascinating. When I have time I'm going to have to read up on this one.

Did I say that? Please so note. Did I imply that she bears some responsibility (was in the wrong as well)...however you want to interperet "Kid shouldn't have given a false name..." ... Yes I did. I also pointed out that U.S. ICE of Houston didn't do its job either.

Yes, you did say that. I believe the quote was "Both are responsible in this matter." Both means both. Personally, I don't believe that deportation to Columbia should even be a possible outcome for a 14-year old runaway who gives false information to authorities, but that's just me. Jesus.

She's responsible for giving false information to authorities and for running away. She should be grounded and lectured at for a minute or two. If and when she gets back from Columbia, of course.

She's also responsible for what the authorities did with that information, yes they should have done moer checking but the initial indentification of her as somebody else is entirely her fault.

As a side note did anyone else find it wierd that Columbia won't give her back? Why is that? And are we invading them next?

No, but a white teenager could be an illegal immigrant from some Eastern European country...but people who are worried about "illegals" are REALLY only worried if the illegal comes from Central or South America.

btw...you are RIGHT ON THE MONEY about how the Government can't be blamed entirely if the girl deliberately gave a false name.

Although neither of us likes the outcome...it ultimately does speak volumes about what may happen when you lie to the authorities.

IF she hadn't ran away and then compounded her problem by LYING to the authorities, she'd never have found herself south of the border.

She just had the extraordinarily bad luck to pick a name already in the ICE database.
