Obama to businesses: Bring jobs home

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama kicked off an effort to encourage businesses to keep jobs at home instead of outsourcing them overseas, as he rolled out a new election-year theme on Saturday aimed at courting middle-class voters.

In his weekly radio and video address, Obama previewed an event he will hold next week with business executives to highlight the advantages of investing in the United States.

"We'll hear from business leaders who are bringing jobs back home and see how we can help other businesses follow their lead," Obama said.

The White House forum on "Insourcing American Jobs" will be held on Wednesday. Executives from more than a dozen companies will attend, including padlock maker Master Lock, furniture company Lincolnton Furniture, software application developer GalaxE Solutions, and chemicals company DuPont.

Could you please articulate the idea? I see he is having a meeting. I do not see an idea? Republicans have long espoused a reduction in corporate tax to make us competitive with other nations as well as a reduction in regulatory policy that inhibits manufacturing costs domestically- which translates into an ability to manufacture at home competitively.

the idea is him talking about it. if he takes it a step further, it will become a plan.

OH...OK, so you want to know if republicans think talking to business executives is a good plan? Business's have made it clear why they ship manufacturing and investments/jobs over-seas. The Republicans have been the only ones that I know of within the political class, who have listened and come up with a plan. So, how do you feel about the republican ideas with regards to business? What possible alternatives to those of republican plans, might Obama come up with by "listening to business executives" that differ from those of republicans?

i think he is most likely taking this from the republican play book. he is moving closer to center in time for the elections.

What about those 25000 jobs that his Job Czar sent over to China?

seems obama is a liar then.....

While the company reported no job losses in the U.S. stemming from the move, President Obama and Jeffrey Immelt are likely to face flak, since Obama appointed Immelt the top outside economic adviser and charged him with running a jobs-focused panel to help bring the U.S. economy back on track.

GE came under scrutiny earlier this year after The New York Times reported the company did not pay any taxes in 2010. It has since been reported that GE had not finished its tax filing, and that the company expected to pay taxes.

Immelt has also been criticized for employing 36,000 more people abroad, than in the U.S. and cutting 34,000 American jobs after becoming CEO, according to The Huffington Post.
