Romney Parks Millions in Cayman Islands

where is the hypocrisy? he said he would save on taxes just like anyone else....

I dont see hypocracy, he is not campaigning on closing the loopholes so no hypocracy. Its a good example of the fallacy of his position, but no hypocracy.

If there's nothing to it, why are you so damned defensively about it? The optics look like shit and the longer Willard refuses to release his tax returns, the worse it looks. I'm guessing he files a clean, plain vanilla tax return this year and releases it while keeping his old ones under wraps.

Because the media is PRETENDING there is something to it??? Because they are hyping the fact that he has money invested in funds that are registered there... yet most aren't highlighting the FACT that he pays the same tax rate as he would if the funds were domiciled in the US.

His estimated worth is around $250mm and he has a reported $8mm in funds in the Caymans. Big f'in deal. Yet the left wing media is going to hammer it to the point that the average person thinks he is trying to 'get away with something' or 'not pay his taxes'.

If Dems are so against cap gains rates being low... why did Clinton lower them?

No, not all of his money...now JFK? Yeah it was all family money.

he was a dem, he gets a pass...i don't recall the dems complaining about kerry's wealth...now all of a sudden it is bad to be wealthy, yet kerry at the time and now has more wealth than mitt and guess what...he didn't earn it. but thats ok with dung, he has a D after his name.

It's complicated yurt, and you are too resistant to even listen with an open mind, I'd rather not get into it.

seems you're the ignorant one. you can't even think of anything, yet you insult me. no doubt christie will give you a pass on this post, despite i was trying to have a discussion with you without insults.

if you were honest, you would admit that i have changed my views in the past due to discussions with other members. STY is one example. at least he tries, unlike you who just has insults.

i challenge you to back up your statement without insults.

I haven't read through the whole thread - did someone actually say that it is "bad" that Mitt is wealthy?

As for Kerry, Republicans had a field day w/ his windsurfing & the ketchup money...Mr. "out of touch"....

Lets see, American presidents who came from money v. those who did it themselves...

Bush Sr..... FAMILY MONEY
Clinton..... Made it himself.
Bush Jr..... FAMILY MONEY
Obama..... Made it himself.

Okay...

American presidents who had a father...

Bush Sr.... Yes
Clinton.... NO
Bush Jr.... Yes
Obama.... NO

Mitt earnned his money the old-fashioned way, he was born into it.

ROFLMAO.... bullshit.

While Mitt's family certainly didn't struggle by any stretch of the imagination, he was not born into a $250mm fortune. The vast majority of it he created while at Bain and BCG.

Maybe this will help, he is not breaking the law just using avenues to avoid tax available to him because of his vast wealth. The charge is rank hypocrisy not illegality.

Tell us how it is hypocrisy?

Let me help you a bit... hypocrisy is a rich Dem bitching about raising taxes 'on the rich', yet each and every one of those rich Dems does everything they can to reduce their own personal tax liability. Did Kerry volunteer to pay more than the tax code required? NO. Does Warren 'I think I should pay more' Buffet? NO.

Those are hypocrites. Correct me if I am wrong, but I haven't heard Romney campaigning on 'we should tax the rich' or 'people should pay higher taxes' or anything of the like. Have you?

I didn't say you were ignorant, nor did I insult you. You ARE RESISTANT, DO YOU DENY THIS?
I'll give you an example if you like; University tuition. The costs of tuition are and have been rising faster than inflation.
If one is wealthy, high tuition is not a problem, is it?

what do you think he is being bashed for? he certainly isn't being praised for his wealth, and dung even claims he didn't earn it.

of course they did, he tried to pass off the image of an everyday man. and please, in what election has the other party not accused the other side as being out of touch or something similar? tff that you act like it is a big deal pubs did it. dems said the same about bush, mccain...pubs said the same about obama.

lets be honest.....these avenues are available to anyone, not just those with "vast wealth"....its just that the average American doesn't pay much in federal income tax (47% pay nothing at all) and don't need "avenues".........

ROFLMAO.... bullshit.

His father was a freaking governor, give me a fucking break.

I dont blame Romney for making smart business decisions, you play by the rules the way they are.... But it illistrates the point against his tax policy. The rich end up paying a much smaller percent of income because of the loopholes the Republicans are against closing. If you closed those loopholes you could lower taxes for the VAST majority of Americans.

Tell us Jarod... did Clinton raise or lower the capital gains tax?

Also... the vast majority of Americans could not have their income taxes lowered. Almost 50% don't pay federal income taxes.

i already denied it. try and read what i post.

that is a fair example. however, it is not often that money keeps people from attending college. you can get in based on grades, you can get scholarships, work your way through. i put myself through college with work and loans. where your example is fair, is more likely the ivy league schools. public education is a different story. however, what would YOU change about that? how would you change the law or rules to make this different?

The OP isn't about him having his money; it's about where he parks his money, which is in a place that doesn't add to the American economy.

Personally, this does not bother me - it's symbolic sort of BS. However, it's not bashing him just for being rich, which is something almost everyone in politics at that level is.

STY is the only one I see who laments that we are always electing rich people, because they tend to look out for rich interests. There is probably some truth to that, but that's a pretty non-partisan critique. It has nothing to do w/ saying it's "bad" that Mitt is wealthy.

His father was a freaking governor, give me a fucking break.

LMAO.... you are quite the dumbass. You think his father made millions as governor?

I guarantee his father made more at American Motors than he made as governor. As I stated, the family did well. But the fortune Mitt has today was primarily derived from his work at BCG and Bain.
