Courageous Gov vetoes abominable bill

Slavery and the Gospel of Jesus Christ are hardly connectable. Slavery is bad, the message of Jesus is good.

Wrong. The First Amendment prohibits the establishment of a religion; therefore, the Church of England does not get to call the shots. It says nothing of teaching about or creating laws based on Christian values.

I did not say that slavery and the Gospel are the same or connectable. I merely pointed out that just because our gov't did it in the 19th century does not make it right.

Also, the fact that the bible was used to teach reading is not because of any desire to promote Christianity. It was the most available book in the country. It also allowed schools to save untold amounts of money by not having to buy textbooks, since churches donated bibles.

If we base laws on a single religion, then we are establishing a national religion. It is the same as Judge Roy Moore installing the 2 ton monument of the 10 Commandments in the Alabama Supreme Courthouse lobby and not allowing any other displays.

If Christians don't want to marry gays, they shouldn't marry them. But for the federal government to disallow gay marriage because of the religious beliefs of one group is simply wrong.

Disallow? There was nothing to disallow in the first place. The question is, do we allow gay marriage, as it's a radical and stupid notion to begin with. My vote is no.

The 1st Amendment was written with the intent to give people freedom OF religion, not freedom FROM religion. Radical liberals were most likely nonexistent at the time. Very few, if any, thought like you. Read your history books and stop spinning the facts.

But you insist that your religion be used to create laws for those who do not believe as you do. That is creating a state religion and is exactly what the 1st Amendment was written to prevent.

Yes, there is something to disallow. Two couples fall in love. One, through a simple secular ceremony, gains approximately 1,400 benefits. The other couple, whether they remain monogamous and true for 40 years, will not gain a single benefit from the gov't.

Let me ask you the question that I have asked numerous times. How would allowing gays to marry actually effect you or anyone else?
