A teenager opened fire in the cafeteria at his suburban Cleveland high school Monday, killing one student and wounding four others before he was chased from the building by a teacher and captured a short distance away, authorities said.



A student who saw the attack up close said it appeared that the gunman targeted a group of students sitting together and that the one who was killed was gunned down while trying to duck under the cafeteria table.
FBI officials would not comment on a motive.



Teachers locked down their classrooms as they had been trained to do during drills, and students took cover as they waited for the all-clear in this town of 5,100 people 30 miles from Cleveland. One teacher was said to have dragged a wounded student into his classroom for protection. Another chased the gunman out of the building, police said.



The suspect, whose name was not released because he is a juvenile, was arrested near his car ...

this is nothing more than an indictment on the american education system. If they'd taught this kid to read, he would have been able to read the gun free zone sign and would not have brought the gun to school.
 
This is one of the laws I think is just plain stupid. He tried to shoot up a school and we're not releasing his name? Hell spray it all over the papers.


As for arming all the kids in a school, that's about as dumb as you can get, you do NOT want pubescent kids with all the issues of high school to be armed, give it a week and the ceilings would drip blood.
 
Good the guns are so accessible that this bullied kid could set things right.
It's the shooters parents fault for not teaching him to defend himself without a gun.
Fucking kid thinks he's dumberthanmany.

But it was a gun-free zone! How could the kid have killed anyone??

I was bullied in middle school, luckly a family of boxers lived accross the street and I joined thier club. All it took was getting bullied once in a bball game in front of about 30 kids soph year. I tought my kids at about 6 or 7 and made sure they never started one but finished when bullied.

Uhhhh excuse me but when haven't public schools been a "gun free zone"? Hell that's something I just take for granted. There's a time and a place for everything and learning how to clean Mr. Mauser in our public schools is probably not such a good idea from a safety stand point. I'm not thinking constitutional law now mind you but common sense. Can anyone here tell me when it's ever been ok to bring a firearm into a school?

funny thing about school shootings. when they start, i'm betting that alot of people aren't thinking 'why did he bring a gun to school', but 'i wish i had a gun to defend myself from this idiot'.

I was arrrested when I was 16 for knee capping the Captain of our Football team with a baseball bat. I think it was probably the proudest moment of my fathers life. LOL True story. A few weeks previous to the incident he had slapped me around ( I was like 5'5" and 135 # at the time and got a black eye out of the deal) and stuffed me into a locker in our high school gym. He was pissed at me cause my sister had seen him earlier in the day and said "I hate tall fags like you" (Thanks a lot sis!).

I was stuck in that locker for like around 20 minutes before someone finally let me out. Several weeks later I stepped out onto our fornt porch and I saw this guy a ways up the road leaning over the drivers window of a car on the side of the street we lived on talking to a friend. So I went to the closet, grabbed Mr. Louisville Slugger and snuck out the back door. I then snuck up behind him and took a home run swing at his knees. He went down like a sack of flower and didn't get back up.

It had to be one of the funniest moments ever when the police came to our home, arrested me and took me to the station. When they realized that I had assualted a guy who was a foot taller and almost 100#'s larger it was all they could do to keep from laughing. The other kids parents were pretty pissed off at me until they found out he had beat me up and stuffed me into a locker. To his credit his father promptly dropped the charges and looked like he was going to kick his son's ass right there and then. My Dad had a grin from ear to ear on the way home but didn't say a damned thing cause my mother was appalled at what I had just done.
