Arizona Senate approves lying to women to prevent abortions

The Arizona Senate on Tuesday approved a bill that would allow doctors withhold information about prenatal problems if it could make the decision to have an abortion more likely.

Republican state Sen. Nancy Barto introduced the measure to protect doctors from so-called “wrongful birth” lawsuits.

Such lawsuits are sometimes filed by parents of children with disabilities who believe that doctors withheld information that could have led to the decision to have an abortion.

“When I first heard of this issue, I couldn’t believe that these lawsuits are actually happening,” Barto told KTAR last month. “That some couples, after they give birth to their child that has a disability, would claim that the child should not have been born, and would sue to get damages.”

“The lawsuits that are being brought imply that the physician is somehow at fault if the child is born with a disability,” she added.

Barto claimed that a doctor could still be sued if there was evidence of wrongdoing.

“If a doctor intentionally or knowlingly withholds information then a lawsuit could be appropriate,” she said.

Opponents of the bill insist that it’s a solution in search of a problem.

“This malpractice shield is the latest in attacks on a woman’s right to access reliable, unbiased health care information and represents yet another effort by Republican legislators to interfere in doctor-patient relationship,” Care2′s Jessica Pieklo wrote. “But even worse, the law presumes that it is the state’s role to dictate what information a woman should have access to and what information she needs to be ‘protected’ from in accessing routine health care services.”

Barto’s proposal passed the Arizona Senate 20-9 and will now go to the state House.

I'm curious if parents should be able to sue because they gave birth to a baby with disabilities. Anyone know if any of these parents have won?

I think a suit would be MORE likely if, as soon as it was discovered that the fetus growing inside the woman had some sort of diability, the parents WEREN'T informed.

Now Cawacko, call all parents sue any time they give birth a baby with disabilities? Are we dealing with that entire set? Or are we dealing with some subset of that set?

Guys, did you guys know that when a guy sticks his penis in a womans vagina, the woman can throw him in prison? LOL! It's this crazy "rape" thing that liberal retards are pushing for! What is our nation coming to!

um, wtf did they do and why? this looks like a very badly written bill to solve a ridiculous problem that shouldn't have happened to begin with.

this is just wrong

i wonder if it will withstand a review by the courts

but then how could a patient know that a doctor lied to them

If a doctor withholds any information at all, of course they deserve to get sued. They should also have their medical license revoked, their citizenship revoked, and spend the rest of their life in prison, and all of their property should go to the family that they defrauded. Their children should get nothing, and their line should be damned unto the third generation.

You hate women, and have no regard for medical ethics if it gets in the way of your fanatical ideology.

with regard to women, my wife, daughters and granddaughters would be surprised to here that i hate women as i love them and they love me, something i doubt that you have any experience with

what has made you so bitter in life
