St. Patrick's Day

I think you might be surprised by the number of people who know, not only the history of Lá Fhéile Pádraig, but the history of Ireland and the irish as well.

Not all americans see the holiday as getting drunk on green beer.

I didn't say all, I said most, and if Leno did a "man on the street" interview about it, I think my point would be proven.

You do realize that they only show the ones that are the funniest.
OH-WAIT; you actually think that the "man on the street" segments are in fact, documentaries..

Low, sorry to hijack your thread with silliness.

Fear not, the thread was pointless and already rife with silliness at the onset of the OP. Nothing you write could possibly make this thread any more or less serious, because Low created it.

looks like it did not make it to ireland until the 15th century

it was a lovely story

oh well

It seems most of the stories surrounding him aren't true! I, as a Catholic child, was told how he used the shamrock to teach about the trinity, which is a lie.

OHhh....I'll guess the truth about the stork and tooth fairy stories were also pretty devastating for you.....

what a pinhead.

My parents never used the stork, my mom was always truthful about sex, and I caught the tooth fairy so it was funny. Santa Claus was the most upsetting to me.

Nuns shouldn't lie to young children, it isn't right.

The nuns probably thought it was a real story. Most people assume the clover story is acurate because it's not particularly spectacular, and makes sense. One can actually use it, today, as an analogy for the Trinity, but it's less practical to rely on Santa Claus to produce results.
