"White Hispanic" Op-Ed

read that earlier and he did make some good points. it also shows that without the race factor, this would not be national news.

I was angered over the way Trayvon's death was handled, didn't matter to me if he was striped or that Zimmerman plaid. It was just that the investigation was bungled and Trayvon's death was due a decent investigation and if it warrants, a trial.

Exactly! The voice of sanity.

i agree. i was referring to the national spotlight. i don't believe everyone made race an issue, however, we can't ignore that it was made a huge issue.

The media came out and made race a huge part of this case. They tried to go with a black guy got shot by a white guy who wasn't charged. That plays right into the history of racism in this country. Quite a different narrative when it's a Hispanic shooter rather than a white one. As far as the black community is concerned they still feel the police have f'd them here but this is a different story when the shooter is Hispanic.

I agree with this writer. I've read it was the NY Times that first used the term though I can't confirm that. It seems the whoever did was trying to weave the black/white narrative into the story. However that's not the case.

"White Hispanic" was the description used in the police report, ..... by the police officer that wrote up the report....if I'm not mistaken, the cop was Hispanic too......

Well, it could be proven to be a race issue. It is now in the hands of the court system.

You're trying to rewrite history on this issue already....don't blame the media for this race shit.....it was the left, Al and Jesse, and certainly the kids family that raised race
as the main issue starting minutes after it happened , especially after the 911 tape was released

Zimmerman was described as white many times before the correction to Hispanic was made....

The media was on the race issue before Jesse or Al.

They were indeed. I actually haven't heard as much out of Jesse or Al as some here have, and I've been paying fairly close attention to the story since the audio broke.

I have contended that this story broke because of that audio, and how chilling it was - combined w/ the fact that it seemed at 1st as though Zimmerman was going to get away with it. But, it's also kind of silly to deny that there are racial elements to this case, including possible profiling that ended up in someone getting killed. Naturally, guys like Jesse & Al - who have dedicated their lives to racial issues, are going to latch onto that aspect of the story.
