The Monroe Doctrine was designed to keep colonial powers from interfering in the affairs of the Americas.

The Malvinas are clearly in the Americas.

Thus, formerly-Great Britain violated the Monroe Doctrine in 1982. Will Obama stand by and let Britain's colonialism stand?

American rightwingers think the US should turn a blind eye to their colonialism again, it seems:

Was that the doctrine that supported the Contras with drugs money from the CIA?

Argentina’s President Cristina Kirchner accused the British government of maintaining a colonial enclave on the disputed islands during a Monday ceremony marking the 30th anniversary of the war.

She described UK’s stance on the islands as “ridiculous” and called it an “injustice in the 21st century.”

The Malvinas Islands, located about 300 miles off Argentina’s coast and home to about 3,000 inhabitants, have been declared as part of the British Overseas Territories since Britain established its colonial rule in the islands in 1833.

Argentina, however, has repeatedly dismissed the British claim over the islands.

Tensions between the two countries have escalated since 2010, when Britain authorized the exploration of oil in Malvinas waters.

The deployment of Britain’s most sophisticated warship, HMS Dauntless, as well as a nuclear submarine to the islands have also mounted tensions over the Malvinas Islands in recent months.

The United Nations (UN) has called on Britain to discuss decolonization. The UK has so far refused to do so.
