Hispanics in the U.S.

Was it during the 1980's that Hispanic migration to the U.S. really started to take off? The thought was on the brain as I was reading an article stating there won't be a white majority in California within a couple of decades and Hispanics will make up the largest minority group. And IIRC haven't Hispanics passed blacks in terms of numbers in this country? There's so much history in this country between whites and blacks and here are Hispanics as the fastest growing group. Sorry, just random A.D.D. thoughts.

Hispanics and blacks are less than 1% apart population wise. Of course its hard to determine with self determination and all that. I wonder how my kids will identify.

i believe it was before the 80's. another reason for the rise in hispanic population is birth rate. i read up on the issue a few years ago, but don't remember. i'll see if google can provide anything of value.
