A spree of early-morning shootings within a one-mile span of north Tulsa in which three people were killed and two critically wounded has led police to suspect the same attacker or attackers are behind them.



All five of the victims were shot within an hour, and within a 1-mile radius of each other, police sources tell CBS News, and all five victims were out walking when they were shot.



Police are speculating that the shootings were racially motivated because all of the victims are black; it is not believed the victims knew one another.



Police won't know for sure if the shootings are linked until they see the results of ballistic tests.



CBS News has learned that two of the victims described the suspect as a white male, and that four people said they saw a white truck. No one has been arrested.




The FBI is now involved in the investigation.



Black community leaders met Friday evening in an effort to calm unrest and promote safety. NAACP Tulsa president, the Rev. Warren Blakney Sr., told the Tulsa World someone appeared to be "targeting black people to shoot."

Another "Tre" Martin shooting with tragic results:

Inglewood police are searching for suspects in the killing of a man who dived in front of his 8-year-old son to protect him from gunfire.

Fredrick Martin Jr., 28, was cleaning his garage Tuesday evening with his son and a friend when two assailants approached and opened fire, his family said in a statement.

As he shielded the boy, Martin was struck in his abdomen and upper torso.

He died later that evening.

Martin’s son, Frederick III, suffered only a minor graze wound, police said. The friend, the boy's godfather, was shot in the ankle.

Inglewood police Sgt. Dirk Dewachter said detectives were still investigating the incident, which occurred around 7 p.m. Tuesday in the 3200 block of West 109th Street.

“We don’t close homicide cases,” he said. “We work them until we can exhaust all leads. Sometimes it’s just a matter of being patient until someone who knows something comes forward.”

Martin was born July 1, 1983, in Inglewood. He graduated from Westchester High School in 2001 and later earned a degree in sociology from Texas Southern University.

In a statement posted online, the family said the birth of Martin’s son, nicknamed “Tre,” changed Martin’s life and motivated him to finish his college degree. Martin had separated from the boy’s mother but remained involved in his parenting.

No suspect has been identified by name.

While not ruling out the possibility others may be involved, investigators believe a white male traveling in a white pickup truck is the lone shooter, according to Tulsa police Capt. Jonathan Brooks.

Brooks added that police are looking into whether the shootings may be hate crimes. All of the victims are black.
