another symbol of christian hubris

what they want should be removed immediately and replaced with something someone else wants, even if that someone else will never make the 3000 foot climb to see it......

Sounds to me like command at Pendelton allowed them to create the memorial, but did not dictate what it should be. They chose a cross. If the group that opposes the cross wants something secular to remember troops by they should carry their monument up there as well. Remember folks, I am a real proponent of separation of church and state and I just don't see this crossing that line.

if they want a christian memorial, then let them put it on private land, not public land

as for separation of church and state, this is actually something that has grown out of scotus, the actual 1st amendment says

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

this has been interpreted over the years to mean separation of church and state

so putting one religion above another is not permitted on public property

why?

you're walking a fine line demanding a "non" religious symbol in the place of a religious symbol. you're close to advocating non-religion as a religion.

close but not quite

a memorial can take many non-religious forms or shapes - as mentioned in the article

the basic idea is not to promote one religion over another or to give the appearance of promoting a religion

this was mention in the op
