Bush already did. You didn't care then, I don't care now especially since Bush had an incredibly compliant (cowardly yellow bellowied sycophants) Democratic Congress and did it anyway.

I can't wait till Obama is reelected. I am starting to suspect that he is going to really ram some things down your throats.

It's awesome. More of this!

You'll have to elaborate....how did Bush bypass Congress or rule by decree ?

And I agree...if Obama is re-elected, be will by ramming something down our throats....

so you're ok with people dying as long as your agenda is pushed. next time, just stop being a hypocrite and say you don't give a fuck about peoples lives.

LOL You're going to murder people but it's my fault because I won't give in to con obstructionism?

I love it!

The infamous Libertarian "personal responsibility" folks!

yes, it will be your fault because you allowed the federal government to ignore the constitution. something that at least you and some of us Libertarians also protested when Bush did it, but judging by your glee and hope to see things 'rammed down the throats' of america by executive decree, i'm guessing the constitution never meant much to you anyway. so yes, it's your fault.

how is this relevant?

Anyone who claims that this Congress has not and is not engaging in unprecedented levels of obstructionism is nothing but a cheap hack. Go sell used cars to hillbillies because you can't sell that.

I'm all for this. Do it more!

WASHINGTON — One Saturday last fall, President Obama interrupted a White House strategy meeting to raise an issue not on the agenda. He declared, aides recalled, that the administration needed to more aggressively use executive power to govern in the face of Congressional obstructionism.

This is what I see as Obama's greatest impediment, a really bad Congress, both sides, but the Republicans being the worst offenders because they won't compromise. It is why a lot of moderates are not seeking reelection. They claim it is as bad as it has ever been.

Allow me to quote the smartest person on this board:

You can say that, again!

I feel really bad that I have to control the nation with the iron fist of Executive power... but those guys who are supposed to check my power keep checking my power! What else can I do?!!shiftplusone!!11

Be George Bush/Dick Cheney!

anytime you allow compromise in congress, we the people lose more freedom.

You don't seem to realize, it takes 2 sides to compromise..... for only one side to compromise is to "cave in"....

Their was actually quite a bit of gloating on the part of the right in Obama's 1st few years that they had gotten him to "cave" when they needed to. Also a lot of claims that he was "just like Bush."

The Congress has made no bones about the fact that they are there to obstruct his agenda, and play for the next election.

Seems you believe your own lies....

Obama's 1st few years he enjoyed having both houses and he was the almighty president....what he did could hardly be seen a caving into anything.....
so lets got real......he even had an unbeatable majority for a time.

Yes, a man whose sole purpose is the execute the mandates of Congress, needs more power to get around Congress because fuck those guys. I mean, the unprecedented power to declare any citizen a terrorist and then execute them without a trial simply isn't enough. Nor is the ability to run supposed criminal investigation/operations that violate multiple international laws. In the words of Tim Taylor (and with extremely similar results) Obama needs MORE POWER!

I am starting to think that this is the only way Obama could possibly lose in November....if this sentiment is accepted and made known. If enough people get worried about what could be rammed down their throats by a re-elected Obama they could possibly get excited enough about a less than excitable candidate like Romney and actually show up to vote for him.

Why? They loved when Bush did it, loved the swagger, loved his vibrato! But I guess a swaggering black President frightens a great many people?

Congress gave Obama the power to declare any citizen a terrorist and to hand such citizens over to the Department of Defense so you're kind of off the mark on that one. Now, the execution without trial is an Obama Production all the way, but you aren't going to find very many members of Congress that will do anything to about it. So, again, a bit off the mark here.

More generally, though, the statement that the president's "sole purpose is to execute the mandates of Congress" is wildly off base. It may have been true at one time in our history that the Presidency was a ministerial position (though I don't think it is), but it is hardly true of the modern presidency both because Presidents over time have exercised more and more authority than in the past and because Congress has delegated shitloads of authority to the Presidency that Congress itself should actually exercise. The modern Presidency has lots of authority to do lots of things and a President that wants to exercise that authority "aggressively" can certainly do so without getting "more power to get around Congress." The President can't do everything without Congress, but he can do lots of things.
