[h=3]TURNAROUND! $1 Billion Surplus in Wisconsin...Gov. Scott Walker Returning It to Taxpayers[/h] Scott Walker touts improvements in state's finances in annual address

Gov. Scott Walker used his election-year State of the State address Wednesday to rally support for his plans to use the majority of Wisconsin’s $912 million in unexpected revenue for tax cuts.

“What do you do with a surplus?” he said. “Give it back to the people who earned it. It’s your money.”

He said he would call a special session of the Legislature to consider his income and property tax cut package — part of a broader fiscal plan called “A Blueprint for Prosperity” — which would save average Wisconsin families about $150 this year.

Assembly Speaker Robin Vos, R-Rochester, said there is support among Assembly Republicans for Walker’s proposal and it will likely be the first bill his chamber takes up when it convenes Feb. 11. The package, however, faces some opposition from Republicans in the Senate.

“I don’t have 17 votes for anything right now,” said Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald, R-Juneau.

Much of the tax cut plan was detailed by Walker to reporters Tuesday, but the speech was the first time Walker disclosed it directly to voters.

:good4u:

Wish my asshole Gov. Moonbean of California would return my tax money.

So let's see. Walker inherits a shitty economy and Obama inherits a shitty economy. Walker turns around his state and gets a surplus and Obama drives the bus over the edge.

In Obamas defense, he probably doesn't have a drivers license as the liberals tell me that many coloreds don't have photo ID so he probably never learned to drive like the white guy did.

Of course the liberals will say that Walker didn't have to deal with a recalcitrant legislature you know? Remember when republicans in congress ran across the state border to keep from having to vote? Remember when the Tea Party clogged the Capitol? Or when Obama had to face a recal election?

Scott Walker never had to deal with that bullshit.

Where are all the gloom and doom libs now? Looks like fiscal conservatism actually works.

what a coincidence.......Michigan's new Republican governor discovered we have a surplus this year too.......one might almost think there's a pattern here......get rid of Democrats, find a surplus.......waiting to hear from Indiana and Ohio.....

oh by the way.....did you hear that Michigan went from 50th in job growth to 7th in job growth over the last four years?.....liberals, how did your Democratic governers do recently?.......

When is a surplus, not a surplus?

Some Republicans, particularly in the Senate, also have said they want to tap some of the money to lower a projected $725 million shortfall heading into the two-year budget that the governor will submit in 2015. That projection does not account for increases in state tax collections, changes in state law or any other factors between now and then that could affect the state’s bottom line.

“What we’re calling for is a balanced approach. Clearly Wisconsin has been struggling in jobs,” he said. According to the most recent data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Wisconsin ranked 37th in private sector job growth between June 2012 and June 2013.
“If we want to build a sustainable economy that will have surpluses in the future, you need to have success in this front,” Barca said of job creation.
Walker promised to create 250,000 new private sector jobs over his four years in office, but the state is on track to add only about half that.

Pretty much this. Minnesota I'd right next door with a democratic governor and doing better than Wisconsin iirc. Not to mention all of the referred maintenance on infrastructure, the decline in education, the decline on environmental standards, the political discord in the state, the fact that it takes so much gerrymandering to keep republican majorities.... Sounds more like a cluster fuck than a success to me.

your governor may have different ideas about what to do with a surplus....
Gov. Mark Dayton said that he will not make any final decisions until he sees an updated forecast next year but if the state has extra money, he wants to cut new business to business taxes and give the middle class a tax break.

California's Democrats are claiming the same thing; but in their case it is manufactured. ;)

Our republican governor has us almost at bottom, 41 out of 45 governors surveyed.

Kasich has the same issues as Tom Corbett; high population cities that are cesspools under Democratic leadership. But I am willing to bet things are a lot better for the State financially than when it had a Democrat in charge.
