There are many ways revenue could be collected without an IRS. If we were to replace the income tax with a sales tax, businesses could simply forward the revenue directly to the treasury. Same goes for a flat tax without any deductions/credits.
 
I'm for big government, but I'm also for efficient, smart government. I'm pretty sure we'd be just fine without an IRS... probably far better off, as Americans wouldn't have to spend billions each year complying with the tax code. At the very least, we could make the IRS much smaller and less intrusive.

Well, apparently that isn't important, we don't bother to limit spending to just what we "Need" and the government is too stupid to recognize that when you spend more on something than you did last year it isn't a "cut"...

The FairTax would set the rate at 23 percent. But this would include "prebates" to families below the poverty line. With no exemptions, I imagine the rate would be closer to 20 percent or less.

I'm not necessarily for this idea (I prefer simplying the income tax code), but it is worthy of consideration, don't you think? Wouldn't you agree the current tax system is in need of reform to some degree?

Forget about what you think OTHERS should pay. That is easy. Anybody can do that. But, what is the most you think YOU should pay? Give me a percentage.

Fair enough, but what's your point? It didn't exist at the founding of our country. We seemed to be doing OK without it for almost a century. And according to the Wiki article, the income tax was allowed to expire in 1872. It was ruled unconstitutional in 1894 until the ratification of the 16th Amendment. So obviously the IRS didn't exist in its present form for 40+ years following the Civil War, and we seemed to do OK without it.

There is, quite literally, nobody who has ever said we should stop collecting taxes. You are Don Quixote battling imaginary Giants.

There are people who have everything backwards though. Without corporations there would be nobody capable of paying for what you think we "need".

You know what else the government doesn't need? Computers. I mean, we got along just fine without them for many many years so I don't see the need, really.

I obviously think the flat tax with high standard deduction is the better way to go. The 'rebate' of the fair tax simply makes it a more complex system. I also think it will end up being regressive, even with the rebates. The wealthy could simply hold on to real estate, bonds and blue chip stocks and thus avoid the 'fair tax' to a large degree relative to their net worth.

Don't be a fucktard. My point is that there are ways to collect revenue with a much smaller IRS, or no IRS at all.

The Founding Fathers abhorred a direct tax as they saw it as an assault on private property rights. You would think being an expert in the Federalist and Anti Federalist Papers, Desh would know that. ;)
