I would spin it as "fake news." The U3 has been heavily tilted towards political ends. For example, it doesn't differentiate between parttime and full-time employment. That means that someone with two jobs that are parttime is double counted. It doesn't look at people who have stopped looking for a job either. That is, it seeks to move towards the best potential outcome(s) that will result in a low unemployment number.

The labor utilization rate on the other hand, looks at all employable persons and what percentage are not employed. That number is at an all-time low (the lockdown for Chinese disease excepted). We have a number of big corporations like Boeing and Ford laying off thousands of employees at the moment. If they aren't looking for other work, they're unemployed but not counted on the U3.

This is why citing the U3, be it Trump, Biden, or anybody else, is citing a nearly meaningless number.

One thing is for sure: it's not the disaster that everyone on the right was predicting.
