3rd study in last week+ shows masks work

This thread is one of the saddest things I've ever seen.

We sure ain't the WWII generation. No sacrifice is too small for some group to state that it's way too inconvenient, or even oppressive.

If everyone wore a mask for the next month, the #'s would probably go down to where Trump claims they are now - close to zero.

But no. It's "virtue signaling," and just too much of a hassle.

I usually don't link.

You can google it quite easily, and the you have the choice to pick the link you find most credible. "Texas A&M mask study." Even ol' Fox has the article.

Oh, I did, and I read it, and read the study article as well. The alleged "study", relies heavily on Chinese data. If you want to trust the Chinese, that's your business, I don't, and won't.

So, you thought I was going to attempt to debate an academic paper with a knuckle dragging moron? LOL at you. I don't talk politics with a chihuahua either.

In other words, you didn't read the published article on the study, and have no idea what conclusions were drawn, or how they were arrived at. Like I said, that's what I thought. I never asked you to debate an academic paper, I merely asked you to touch on a couple of key points, you can't, because you have no idea what's even in the paper. I accept your concession.

There was also a British study last week.

But the anecdotal is what is overwhelming. Look at Hong Kong. 2 hairdressers in MO both had COVID, wore masks, and didn't infect 140 clients that they saw.

Why resist this? This could be as good as a vaccine (one of the studies even said that). Like Trump always says...why not try it? Let's give it 1 month with full compliance & see what happens...

I read it, in particular the section on the efficacy of masks.

" Our analysis indicates that face covering reduced the number of infections by over 78,000 in Italy from April 6 to May 9 and by over 66,000 in NYC from April 17 to May 9."

I could not give a crap if you want to dissect the study. It's like arguing about Obama's birth certificate. Anyone that believes a) Obama was born in Kenya, or b) masks are ineffective in slowing the spread of the virus is a moron, and I don't waste my time discussing academic studies with a moron. You are a moron. So my choice was easy.

You're not making that call.

The more spread, the slower the re-open. If it spreads enough, the more likelihood of a shutdown.

These are very simple, linear equations.

we aren't shutting down again, sure some pussy democrat states that let snuff film stars take over blocks of their city might, but not people with balls

ROFLMAO

The fact that you think wearing a mask is a sacrifice on your part is hilarious. You don't have the balls to have been alive during WWII. I couldn't imagine your pussy ass jumping off a boat at Normandy. You might get dirt under your precious fingernails

BWAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAh

and for fucks sake, you are wearing the least effective mask imaginable. but if it makes you feel virtuous knock yourself out

You just made my point beautifully. Wearing a mask is NOTHING. And you won't do it.

Thanks. Much appreciated.

Read my post again, btw. I'm making fun of those who think wearing a mask IS a sacrifice - not saying I'm making one.

And bull that "we're not shutting down again." Because that's how you want it doesn't make it so.

We can avoid shutting down again. But not if people don't make any effort at all.

And what do you think it will do to the American economy if NY shuts down again?

Please say "nothing." I'm interested to see how well you understand economics.

And shutting down is not necessarily a 'choice' that a state or a city or even an individual business makes. If customers don't show up, you are, in essence, shut down. And they are not going to show up. The majority of Americans believe that cases are on the rise (because they are), and that another shutdown is appropriate if there is a second wave. People aren't going to come until it's safe. At least not in the numbers needed to restart the economy. Unfortunately though, they WILL come in numbers sufficient to restart the pandemic.

Exactly.

These are very simple equations. Like adding 2 + 2. The American economy, more than anything, depends on consumer confidence.

I find the mask shaming and "scaredly cat" stuff to be profoundly ignorant of how things work in our economy.

It's a Trump cult phenomenon. They think that not wearing a mask makes them seem 'tougher'. Their idea of a 'real man' is John Wayne, not John Oliver. They value macho over intelligent. Ironically, they are thin skinned, whiny, and terrified of their own shadow.

A very sound analysis.
