A Bigger Libertarian Tent

But also, my reasons for voting for people have nothing to do with any platform I'm proposing. Sorry for any confusion on that point.

I believe in voting based on MERIT. A foreign concept in our current state, I know. Style has conquered substance and made it a slave.

Well, quite. It's quixotic to pursue merit in a president. You want to nudge the ocean liner, is all.

And voting based on anything other than merit does not nudge it in a good direction. It goes more towards the style, not the substance.

Getting involved in the affairs of other nations isn't something we 'have' to do. We can do other stuff. Like stay the fuck home.

Did you enjoy 911? I didn't. And before you say it's the result of us being involved overseas in the first place, it's purely a matter of luck that we aren't surrounded by other countries who are a threat to us. Would you tell Israel to be Libertarian in their military? I Libertarianism applicable to any country, or just the ones lolling in luxury?

A person who gets elected, however superficial they are, can be a symbol. Substance is not for the most part located in the individual president. A person who doesn't get elected is nowhere. But we are discussing my personal voting pattern (in my case the substance had to do with how ethnic and religious groups react to ethnic and religious symbols), not any kind of party platform.

Why? Don't you want us to get past those subjects as soon as possible when it comes to electing a president? Do you believe the race, gender and religion pot needs to be simmered but not stirred?

Electing a president isn't a game or a beauty contest.....being black or a women or a Mormon are not qualifications to be POTUS....

And most libertarian views on serious and important issues are ludicrous....

Are you a teenager or a rational thinking adult ? If you voted in '06 its time you matured a little since that mistake.

Thanks. I'll see how it goes. How moderated are we?

If you read the two posts that follows this I'm responding to. You will see, very little moderation. At the same time obvious that the most active admins work double time to make those that disagree with them appear to be fools. Nothing is done administratively to correct that bias. Just keep posting the hypocrisy.

Yes, and if they were pissed at our involvement BEFORE, I'm sure all the droning has perked the ME right up. I especially realized this when I was nearly blown up a few times on convoys out there. They were just so happy and all.

So why should we have a large military if the threat level does not require one?
Would you tell Israel to be Libertarian in their military?
Considering they do have a much higher threat level, their military spending is more in line with realistic concerns. However their domestic policies are part and parcel with the REASON for their security threats.
I Libertarianism applicable to any country, or just the ones lolling in luxury?
All, you just don't understand them. A world where nations don't get involved in affairs that don't concern them and where all trade is free is a fine sounding world to me.

Care to elaborate on this admin bias?

I beg to differ. Either that or put an end to popular voting. The Electoral College had a serious function once, but no more.

being black or a women or a Mormon are not qualifications to be POTUS....
The point is that NOT being black/Mormon is not a qualification. That is what has needed to be stated.

And most libertarian views on serious and important issues are ludicrous....
Such as?

Oh, I was just amusing myself. My vote had no effect on anything at all, actually.

If libertarians gave up their right-wing economic views, I honestly think they would eventually just be absorbed by the left, or disintegrate. Their dedication to right-wing economics is a big issue that drives a lot of people to them.

Being absorbed by the Democrats would require us to give up our civil libertarian views and become apologists for authoritarians. Not going to happen.,

Declared war on us, so that's his fault, not ours.
Terrible event, truly. But genocide isn't our business. Unless we make it ALL genocide, and we haven't and won't.
A sovereign nation. If they want our help they have to be a state.
I'm failing to see HOW....

Nazism, Japanese imperialism, Communism and Islamism have been/are world phenomena. Nasty Nations with Nukes are among us. They have touched us and had/have the ability to make the world an unpleasant place for us where we live. The only question is whether we wait for that shit to get over here or not.

So, where is this bigger tent? Libertarians ought to own it, but if they don't want it, then someone will have to found the NonLibertarians.
