Because it's a strawman Tom. Not condemning an entire religion because of a handful of the Middle East equivalent of Hillbillys is not the same as making excuses for terrorist.
He does hit the nail on the head. Education is they key. How many Arab States would fall if they only educated their masses to western standards? Gets complicated, doesn't it?
If anyone is to blame for the radicalism in the Middle East it is the ruling classes of many of those nations. By not educating their masses and retaining medieval social structures that keep large masses of their people uneducated and poor and frustrated and trapped in serfdom they create the breeding grounds for radicalization.
But if you educate the masses the ruling class position become untenable. How long do you think the house of Saud would last if they had modern public liberal arts education for the masses? Maybe as long as the oil does.
The problem in the ME is largely that the ruling classes have done little to advance their people and have kept vast numbers of people in ignorance and poverty. It has made them weak and vulnerable to the west. They also are well aware of that and loath themselves for it and resent the hell out of the west too. Fertile ground for raising radicals.
