A good example of why people are screaming for HC reform.

What it sounds like that need's to be done is a change in the health care system, Looking at world statistics the US apperantly has a lower cost base yet they spend more per a capita on health with lower results.

In many nations there are system's in place to ensure low income earner's are not charged an exorbitant fee. Perhap's the US need's to look at one of these other countries for some clues.

Bupa (originally, the British United Provident Association) was established in 1947 when 17 British provident associations joined together to provide healthcare for the general public. The original services offered by Bupa included private medical insurance, and eventually expanded to include privately run Bupa hospitals. Bupa had an initial registration of 38,000 when founded, but currentlyhas over 11 million members worldwide, and is the largest private health insurance provider in the UK.

It was founded before the advent of the National Health Service (NHS) in 1947 as a provident organisation. Initially, it was purely a UK health insurance provider, offering policies to individuals, companies and other organisations. This continues to be a large part of the company and around 80 percent of the UK's FTSE 100 are customers.

Over the years, it has diversified away from its core health insurance business and is now an international healthcare company with services that include travel insurance, health insurance, care homes, health assessments, occupational health services and hospitals. The firm is a private company limited by guarantee; it has no shareholders, and any profits (after tax) are reinvested in the business.[SUP][2][/SUP]

No, my out of pocket will be $1400. My point being I never once, and I asked and asked and asked, was given a straight answer to the question "How much will this cost?"

Whoever wrote the bill could certainly have told you, the point is, no one gave a shit, and that sucks.

That's pretty much my point in a nutshell. If you're going to do something like this with high costs you need to be informed as to what those costs are so you can make the appropriate financial planning.

Because you aren't paying the bill. You knew it was covered and you went along for the ride. Now you want to bitch as if you are some innocent taken advantage of victim.

At any point you could have said NO. You didn't.

Now what would you have done or said if your GP said "I saw a blip, but I don't think it is anything. Head on home"

Stop with your feigned indignarion

But he did pay a portion of the bill so he did have a right to know be it legal, moral or straight out common courtesy. Matter is they need to bring in legislation so that prices are put up front so that you can either shop around for a better deal (which would end up happening with them being forced to state there costs from the get go) or they should be required to offer lower cost to low income group.

and who's fault IS that......would we go to a mechanic and not refuse to let him start working without getting a quote?.......would we go to a grocery store that didn't label the cans or let us know how much they were charging for bread until after we ate it?.......we have gotten where we are because no one cared when we thought "someone else is paying for it"......the insurance company paid our bills, our employers paid for our insurance....we are merely reaping what we've sown.......the question has arisen because we need to decide if we will continue sowing it......if our "solution" is "the government and rich people's taxes will pay for it" the problem isn't going away......

You are being foolish. You act as if he had zero choices here. He could have walked out any time. But he didn't.

You don't know that what is charged is nothing but a big fucking game because of the distorted reimbursement schemer designed by the gobblement.

If it was a true free market and he was paying the entire thing out of pocket then I bet he would have pushed harder.

But despite Motts protestations post finding out his heart wasn't going to give out on him, deep down at the time he really didn't care how much it cost. Oh I am sure he asked, but I bet he never unstuck his fat ass from the white paper, put on his flannel shirt and attempted to walk out did he? Fuck no.

He heard "blip" and inside freaked out. "Oh no, am I going to have a heart attack?"

Again spare me your phony indignation about knowing the costs of something you don't actually pay for.

Last point I would make is that this all a moot point, because under Obamacare, Mott will be sent on his way home with a pat in the fanny with advanced directives and told to call if he feels "funny". Then he can come back here bitching about how the uncaring Dr. didnt care about his blip

Bingo.

Last month I went for a physical. Just a garden variety annual physical. The GP does a general physical, BP, blood, ekg and says there's a little blip on my ekg, he doesn't think it's serious but thinks maybe he should send me to the cardiologist. So every step along the way I'm asking "How much is this going to cost?". I'm told "Don't know for sure but since it's a physical with out a diagnosis it shouldn't cost you much, your insurance should pick up most of it. Never once to I get told "Total cost is going to be X dollars.".

So I go see the cardiologist. He does a BP and an EKG. Say's theirs a blip on it that he can't even point out to me on the cardiogram it's so small. He want's to do a stress test. Again "how much is this going to cost" I get the same BLAH, BLAH, BLAH and no straight answer to my question.

So this week I get the Bill and for going over to a cardiologist and for literally putting me on a treadmill for 10 minutes with a blood pressure cup and a heart rate monitor they charged my ass $2500!!

Some fucking stress test. I read the bill and my heart started beating faster than when I did the stress test. What a fucking racket. How do they get away with this shit? They're the only mother fuckers I know who can bill you for a service and not tell you what that service is going to cost you.

You are just too ignorant to realize the stress test comes when you get the bill. They are watching you right now and documenting for posterity.

and yet you continued on... you want to know how they get away with it? There are a lot of idiots in this world that will simply follow along and do what they are told without getting the answer.

No I understand that. And that's a lot of money to have to pay out of pocket anyway. But yeah I know they don't tell you shit. I hope you got good results? Or does a good result cost more?

Odd, I have never had that experience. They tell you if you insist they do so prior to taking the tests. But from the looks of things, we have further evidence liberals just aren't bright enough for anything but being led around by others.

Hell yea that's an outrageous cost but what did I have to do to get someone to say "This is going to cost X dollars"? I mean I should be able to make an informed financial decision about my health care cost. Who do these pricks think they are? You couldn't get an honest answer from them to that question if you beat them over the head with a tire iron.

You were the prick. You were the dumbass who kept going along with the treatments without getting the answer first. You know what you do when they don't answer???

You say NO

Yeah, those idiots taking the advice of their doctors when it comes to things like the condition of their heart. Morons. Mott should have taken an aspirin and told the doctor to fuck off.
