A new era dawns in relations with China

ROFL.. you cant "explain" how we "partner" against China on trade because we can't..lol

Bilateral is the only way we can use our economic size and also effectively sanction China if/when they cheat.

you've already seen how globalist institutions like the WTO are a paper tiger - why do you think it will work again?
But "IT'S TRUMP" and you simply can't handle the fact Trump has the best ideas on trade

Phase 1 is not a "failure" it's stillborn because of COVID. we were on a path to a comprehensive trade deal=
US Trade Rep. Lighthizer hammered it out despite China's balking every step of the way

Not our first conversation on the topic....... I don't have the time or inclination to go over it all again.........

You can go back & read your notes or my posts if you have time..

corps need to be reined in.
just how to do that...there are protections against IP theft ( J.Venture agreements, etc.) in phase 1.
But Beijing Biden will never follow up on those

Sad you accuse China of not following the rules then tout rules to prevent them from doing just that, stealing etc..:palm:

We have sanctions & rules they are obviously not deterred by them..... They took Hong Kong on trump's watch, not Obama or Biden.. :nodyes:

The world’s number two economy, and America’s top trade partner, was cast as a boogeyman by the Trump administration, which blamed the Chinese for the coronavirus pandemic, the trade deficit, IP theft, opioid addiction, spying, military aggression and much more besides.

Trillions of dollars and global stability hinge on the estranged superpowers finding common ground wherever possible.

“China and the United States are competitors, of course, but competition in itself should not be viewed as a destructive force,” says Victor Gao, a Chinese expert on international relations. “Competition can actually bring also good things for both countries and for mankind as a whole.”

President Biden has spent “more time in private meetings” with Chinese President Xi Jinping than any world leader, in 25 hours of private dinners. Xi, in turn, lauded Biden as “my old friend” in 2013.

Cordiality is sorely needed.

Communication channels between U.S. and Chinese officials are currently “zippo,” according to one top U.S. diplomat, while China’s ambassador to the U.S., Cui Tiankai, has been completely frozen out of discussions with even junior Trump administration officials.

This is dangerous on many levels—not least because it creates a lack of a de-escalation mechanisms, should there be an accident, or miscalculation.

An early first summit between Biden and Xi will help set the tone for relations.

Biden’s easiest win may simply be the fact that he is not his predecessor.

“Trump is fundamentally a person without decency, and you cannot have a friend without decency,” says Gao. “Biden is a person with decency—that’s very, very important.”

China unveiled plans to rollback red tape on financial services, of which U.S. firms are market leaders.

Although such reforms have been promised many times before, bankers tell TIME that the new proposals are more tangible.

Such concessions can be built upon by a determined Biden White House.

There are also opportunities to build consensus on issues like coronavirus vaccine development, education, cultural ties, nuclear proliferation, trade and investment.

The future is New Chinese Empire.

The West is spent.

‘More sophistication, more backbone’: Biden’s approach to China

Most expect a measured ‘competent’ approach to US-China foreign policy under the Biden-led administration.

Under Biden’s leadership, the rhetoric that many have grown accustomed to under Trump’s administration might soften, and that could displease a few people.

The US election came at a key time in the relationship between the world’s two biggest powers.

Jeffrey Wilson, research director of the think-tank, Perth USAsia Center, believes President Biden will pursue “the US ‘national interest’, rather than the narrower ‘Trump interest’” in his approach to China.

Wendy Cutler, vice president and managing director at the Asia Society Policy Institute in Washington, DC agreed.

“The most striking difference we expect to see in the Biden administration on US-China relations is the importance attached to working with allies and partners."

Wilson said Biden’s partnership-building agenda will be “welcomed”.

During the Obama years, Biden met Xi a number of times and Baer expected the president-elect to draw on his experience of “foreign policy, in general, and Xi Jinping, in particular”, backed up by experts from across the US political divide.

Cutler added there will be room for collaboration with China on certain global issues.

In mainland China, the election has garnered widespread interest especially, as Jiang puts it, “all the chaos that came from the election, and the aftermath” as Trump attempts to undermine the result with unsubstantiated claims about fraud and his refusal to concede.

Yaoji Chaogan, a Beijing restaurant where Biden dined in 2011 has experienced a surge in popularity since his victory, while posts about Biden on social media site Weibo attracted than 730 million views, according to the Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post.

Stocks in both China and Hong Kong also rose following Biden’s victory.

I dunno to what extent he actually fought w/ them...... I can recall a few isolated instances but realistically I don't know what he could have actually done to prevent them from doing whatever they want..

They essentially have the country by the balls & they call the shots..

They rob & steal & when shit implodes they get the gumbment aka American tax payers to bail their asses out w/out...

& then threaten to leave if you raise their taxes to pay for the roads to their businesses, & educate the workers working there & the police to protect them etc etc etc.......

While I am not a big fan of Steve Bannon, on this he was 100% correct.........

They will abandon us in a heart beat, & sadly one day they will do exactly that I am afraid

That is why revolution is the only solution at this point. It won't happen anytime soon, but it might in a few generations.

Could be :dunno: Hopefully there is something worth fighting for then...........

That is a valid question. Thankfully, it's a question I don't think I'll have to worry about, since I'll likely be in a different country within the next 10 years.

Thanks. Poland is my preferred destination, mostly because they remind me of what I used to see in American culture: a respect for tradition, hard work, and nationalism. It just takes a while to learn another language.
