A new poll indicates there is no clear leader of the Republican Party.

I agree with you Letterman's jokes were in bad taste. But, your facts re: Laura bush, are a little off. Yes, she was in an automobile accident, but the victim, not a pedestrian, was her ex-boyfriend.

History will be "bashing" bush for years in the future, no help is needed from any source. Most Dems and Independents would be very happy for the RW GOP to rest on the laurels of the past 8 years.

Well, problem is, most of the actual conservatives in the RW GOP didn't really care for Bush, or to continue Bush policies. It's one of the big reasons for his decline in popularity the last few years. No doubt, the Democrats will continue to hang Bush around the necks of conservatives for years, because that is really all they have. Too bad it won't be that effective at dissuading the RW GOP. As for history, you have no crystal ball, so you don't know what future generations will say about Bush or his policies, that remains to be seen. I happen to think he will be viewed much like Truman, not the greatest president, but certainly not the worst... yeah, I know you don't believe that, it's the effects of the koolaid. But when historians of the future evaluate the Bush Presidency, you'll be drooling in your oatmeal at the old folks home.

I have a question .. Why would anyone actually want to be the leader of a rapidly failing political party, thus attach their name to disaster?

Much the same was said about a different party not too long ago. I prefer there not being a clear voice for the R party at this time. Over time we'll get a new group, with a solid message and a different set of priorities. This is just a sign that the party members understand that what they were doing wasn't working and falling back on the previous standard bearers is a mistake.

The idea that people who vote Republican are "happy" there isn't really a clear leader at this time is a bit strange. In the absence of a strong leader, others will often fill the void, as they have for the right.

The current faces of the GOP are Cheney, Palin & Limbaugh, like it or not.

I've been around for a few days longer than you Grasshopper, and I don't believe I've ever seen the Democratic Party in as desperate a shape as today's Republican Party. Even during Regan, democrats were never threatened by demographics, never completely leaderless or messageless .. and therein lies the problem. The problem is less that they don't have a leader, but more that they don't have a message they can sell to a wider public. They don't need a tuneup, they need a complete overhaul.

I'm not sure the wisdom is there for an overhaul.
