a proposed building worth protesting

the point you are too slow to grasp is that they are NOT saying 'I don't feel comfortable around Muslims and I don't think any mosques should be built anywhere'

They are saying 'It just doesn't feel right to have a large mosque built so close to where Islamic radicals murdered so many Americans in the name of their religion, could you please move the mosque to a site further away'

You continue to imply that they are "feeling" certain ways about ALL Muslims in ALL locations... which is nothing short of projected bullshit.
So the solution to that issue is to restrict the religious freedoms of Muslims? Why sir, that's unAmerican!

New Yorkers don't give a sh*t what anyone thinks. They are the most selfish arrogant bastards in our country (well tied with the people from Boston and Conneticut). I said people want to rip on the South and this is another example of biggotry in the Northeast.

I never said they would care what someone from Alabama would say.
and what's wrong with that? It's their city, Not Alabamas.

What I'm saying is that there's a whole lot of people who need to mind their own damned business on this issue. It's there City.

Well the people in their City are prejudiced bigots. And I'm saying this is not new.

And fuck that dude, I can talk about what people in New York are doing. They are not special. If 61% of them show themselves to be prejudiced and bigoted (and essentially racist) we can't talk about that?

To me, the one is just an extension of the other. The way you phrased it is a candycoated version of what it means. How are you missing that?

It's an uncomfortable topic. Frankly, I think most people are prejudiced against religion and/or color to a certain extent, and I would include myself in that group. I think very few go through life in an unprejudiced way.

But let's not do cartwheels to prevent calling it for what it is.

As I stated, you are projecting YOUR beliefs and feelings onto everyone else. You see bigotry there because YOU FEEL it... not because others do.

And Freak, I would add that I have heard very few - in the media, in Congress, wherever - who have phrased their opposition as innocuously as you have characterized it.

Most of the arguments I have heard have slipped in something along the lines of "they attacked us on 9/11," or "their goal is to subjugate us," or "they all believe in jihad." Us vs. them. Americans vs. Muslims.

ROFLMAO.... yeah... because the media/politicians NEVER try to sensationalize anything.

This is a NYC issue that has become a NATIONAL discussion.... Who wants to bet that would not have occurred had the more rationale people been the ones quoted?

So the solution to that issue is to restrict the religious freedoms of Muslims? Why sir, that's unAmerican!

Ah yes, the retarded parroting of the far left.... other than the extreme nuts, no one has suggested restricting their religious freedoms you dolt. ASKING them to move the location is not the same as FORCING them to do so.

Every answer you have provided on this is a complete cop-out. I'm not projecting my beliefs. I am stating that every argument that I have heard has been prejudicial against Muslims with a capital "M," and nothing more. As I have stated, I have not heard one argument that is not.

Your attempt to provide one only reinforced that there really isn't an argument not involving prejudice. Just the other day, Damo said that the Muslim group could show more "tolerance" by deciding against building on that site. That's like a white neighborhood saying they don't want any blacks moving in, and stating that a black family could show more tolerance by just looking for their home elsewhere.

It is what it is, Superfreak. You can candycoat it all you want, but it is painting a huge group with the actions of a small few. If you don't want to take my word for it, there are plenty of polls on the subject.

As I stated many times, if you think all psychological effects of 9/11 stem around bigotry towards Muslims, that is on YOU. that is YOUR belief. You are going to see bigotry in any and every explanation because that is what YOU want to see.

So you demean everyone else because of YOUR beliefs because that is what makes you feel better about yourself. You pretend it is 'candycoating' when in fact it is simply your attempt to paint every answer with the word bigot.

No, it isn't. If people have a generalized view about Muslims based on an emotional reaction to 9/11, that is prejudice. There is no other word for it, and I'm sorry if it makes you uncomfortable.

I gave the example previously (which you ignored) of a guy who opposes a black family moving into his neighborhood, because he had friends or family or just people he knew who were harmed by someone who is African American. Yes, he can have that opinion, but is that opinion really defensible?

It's generalizing, SF. It's painting a large group with the actions of a fanatical few. If you can't see that, I can't help you. You seem determined to ignore the obvious here.

No need continuing to ramble on... you have already displayed your personal bigotry. We understand you now wish to project that onto everyone else. We get it... you don't like Muslims.

I see a white flag.

Honestly, I expect a little better out of you. You're not really addressing the real issues here, which are pretty apparent. You're hiding behind the emotionalism of "are you calling 61% of new yorkers bigots?"

Are you really denying that there is stereotyping & prejudice at work here?

And all Muslims recognize him as their leader, and are part of the "Muslim jihad"?

He has enough recognition amongst Muslims that he remains hidden and protected by them. Enough recognition that Islamic belief is forever tied to his name. Enough recognition that the symbolic nature of building this mosque at GZ leaves people feeling the impropriety of doing so because of him...

Defend this, Superfreak.

LMAO... right... a white flag... you crack me up

I am not 'hiding behind emotionalism'. You can't wrap your mind around the fact that there could be psychological reasons that NYC residents have for not wanting the site. You want to pretend that they are all bigots and thus you are going to shout 'bigot' regardless of what is stated by me or anyone else.

and NO moron... I have been quite clear that there are certainly some who are acting out of prejudice/stereotyping. My point has always been that I do not think everyone is acting on that.

Side note... you ARE calling all 61% bigots because you won't accept any other reason for people not wanting that PARTICULAR mosque in that PARTICULAR location. To you it is 'they are bigoted towards all muslims and all mosques in all locations'

Defend this, Superfreak.

Defend from what???

Is Bin laden kept hidden and protected?

Will he forever be linked to the Islamic faith?

Is he remebered for 9/11?

Why is it that you cannot comprehend the symbolism that a mosque at GZ represents?

How is it you are so divorced from the impropriety of such a thing?

Again...WHY is it that they don't want THAT mosque in THAT particular location?

As I said, you're ignoring the obvious. If the events of 9/11 changed someone's view about an entire religion - is it understandable? Kind of. Is it defensible on a rational level? No. It's nothing more than stereotyping (the kind we are seeing with ID's posts).

Sterotyping? How weak! The opposition is to a location for a place of worship to a religion that was THE cause celebre` for the murder of 3000 American's. The majority of the opposition have come out and said IT'S THE LOCATION, To CELEBRATE THIS RELIGION, not the religion.

Funny how the majority of people are able to understand the impropriety and NOT hate muslims...but hacks like you NEED to make it about hating.

There's a lot of hate to go around.
